@@jp2650 OP said religion causes blindness, not that it makes countries "unsuccessful", as if those two things are contradictory.. China is powerful and successful by many standards, but they're not religious AND their people are blinded by propaganda. None of these things are necessarily contradictory unless you define success by quality of life, and that somehow measures ability of citizens to acquire information and formulate informed opinions.. I know examples cant prove a hypothesis, but for a taste of the censorship and spirit of religion towards the advancement of knowledge just look at Galileo or Darwin.. If you think that religion serves to inform people and doesn't have an inherent interest in keeping people uneducated and impoverished, praying for miracles and paying their tithes rather than paying for what they actually need to improve their situations then I don't know what to tell you except that I hope your worldview serves you well. I hope you continue to exercise the critical thinking that God gave you going forward 🙏

He is NOT preaching the gospel please. He maybe making some sense but his views are one sided. He is painting the missionary in bad light as if Christianity is a curse. Yes, religion generally, from people that misunderstood it and misinterpreted , has promoted poverty. But that is because they don't understand the goodnews of Jesus Christ. CHRISTIANITY IS A BLESSING and has been responsible for most part of civilization in education, science and economics.

Jocelyn Forde Someone on this page came up with a similar quote from Kenyatta. The question remains in either case, how are the land and the Bible being used? Perhaps the colonizers weren't using the Bible properly, consequently their attention was focused too much on acquiring the land. According to Jesus, 'not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.' He also said that 'you cannot serve both God and money.'

The World Bank and IMF (responsible for making the economic plans of many poor countries) is running with a very human mindset, unfortunately it's not sharing, caring and empathy but rather greed, arrogance and envy. At least, organized religions tries to tame these dangerous humans traits, but "modern-style economic liberalism" doesn't seems to have problem with them.

But he is wrong. Africans go into religion because they are poor, They are not poor because they go into religion. Poverty in Africa is majorly due to imbalance in international politics and economics, bad leaders sustained majorly by foreign countries among others. I can give examples from Eyadema, Paul Biya, Mobutu Sesekou to martyrs like Sankara, Lumumba, Olympio etc.

So God is the one that asked People to be cheating on each other, you mean? God told us to be honest, and kind to one another, but anyone leads your Country, the first plan, is to take all the riches of the Country, and put it in foreign banks for his own use, and care less about the Citizens of your Country. Church or Mosq will never advice you to do the wrong thing, which will harm others. The problem in Africa, some leaders are greed, to the extend that, they will never think about thir Citizens, nor the bring improvements for anyone to be close to them. Don blame God, cuz God created us, and give us brain, to decide what to do. Good, or bad. If the leader is not correct, just thinking about himself, how can the Country go forward? If everyone follow what God advices us, no one will suffer, in the entire world. Read the Bible, or the Quran, and see if it's asked you to harm others.
