Күн бұрын

As president and COO of SpaceX, Gwynne Shotwell is responsible for the company's day-to-day operations, as well as managing all customer and strategic relations needed to support company growth. She joined SpaceX in 2002 as vice president of business development and built the Falcon vehicle family manifest to more than 50 launches, representing over $5 billion in revenue. Previously, she worked at the Aerospace Corporation and at Microcosm's Space Systems Division.
Shotwell has authored dozens of papers on a variety of subjects, including standardizing spacecraft/payload interfaces, conceptual small spacecraft design, infrared signature target modeling, space shuttle integration, and reentry vehicle operational risks. In recognition of her work, she received the 2011 World Technology Award for Individual Achievement in Space and was inducted into Women In Technology International Hall of Fame in 2012. Earlier this year, she was elected as a Fellow to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Gwynne Shotwell, what a great awesome name for a woman running the operations of a space company. It's so good, it almost sounds made up. I hope she gets to go into space, she is one sharp lady.

14:00 "So we're 5-for-5 testing on this Grasshopper. But, but that means we're not pushing hard enough. We've got to tunnel one of those vehicle into the ground by trying something really hard. We haven't done that yet. So now our challenge to our test team is you've got to push hard enough that we're going to see something happen. A spectacular video."--Gwynne Shotwell, June 2013.

Just adding a bit regarding internet for those in the know who are looking at ways for fast internet ! Never ever consider Fibre to the node technology ! Always take your fibre directly from the exchange to the the dwelling be that a house or business ! I live in australia where we were to get Fibre optics right to the house but our government in all there wisdom thought they could save dollars by incorporating a node thus cutting the fibre just feet from your premises and using the old copper system from the node !" It does not work "prior to the node the speed is 100/40 at the house after the node it turns to 30/20 a loss of 70%

She hoped in 2 years to get men to the ISS. Well that didn't happen, but damn they have come so much further than just that. It's incredible what SpaceX can do today and it is 5 years later. Maybe soon they will get someone to ISS, but looks like 2019 is the year, not 2018. (I know 2018 December is the goal, but goals are not reality just hopes.)

The first time i saw Mrs Shotwell and listen to her i know Spacex are at a place where they value the input of a great lady. Am truly trilled just listening to her, that’s really my vision of a strong woman. For the most part i find it difficult to listen to women speakers because they mostly stray from the points of real motivational topics which are able to improve the audience abilities to grasp the idea of the speakers and prolonged the speech so it becomes boring and the point lost somewhere in the speech. Love ❤️ you great lady 🌹🌹🌹🙏🌗🌎👍👌🏽🌼🌸

The speakers logic about spending on education (low) and beer (high) has been raised by some politicians and failed to gain recognition. The majority of people buy into the negative and self defeating system by electing or failing to elect leaders who can make changes.

Yes, she is awesome, so is her company. But, the United States has way too many scientists and engineers. It is impossible, or nearly so, to get any type of job in a STEM-related field in the U.S.A. We must find a way to help highly skilled U.S. citizens to emigrate to countries where they might have a chance to start careers.

I admire the heck out of spacex, her as the COO, and Elon Musk of course, and she's most definitely smart as xxxx, but this presentation is very underwhelming, not doing it in a very crisp and clear way to illustrate her points. The start of the 12b comparison was awkward and unwieldy to say the least. It feels like she had to do this presentation in a rush and didn't really polish the delivery and punchlines.

While I agree Tesla was very important to electricity, why is it presumed that he has invented everything that has to do with electricity? Why do people like Michael Faraday or George Westinghouse not get a mention?
@antonbriggs5680
@antonbriggs5680 7 жыл бұрын
Faraday is mention a lot in Electrical Engineering textbooks. Westinghouse is still printed on some your appliances and other electronic devices. Tesla was only recognized until lately as a unit of measurement. Remember why your house can be anywhere now a days and you have power. It's not Edison's DC.

She's not the first person to say the ""20%"" of the population is wealthy. However, she is wrong in her statement. That 20% is 20% more disposable income gone from the middle class. Look up Robert Reich for factual proof he's been talking about inequality for over two decades if not longer.

It lets him do what he does best, and he doesn't have to deal with the day to day running of spacex. She is employee 7 of 6,000 and she says she'll be there forever. I think everyone including me is ok with that.

Her talk is wrong. NASA had billions yet Musk was able to do way more, because he was allowed to keep it. Imagine what he could do if he paid less tax. The job builds the city not the education. Stockton was build as result of the gold miners. People get engineering degrees to get spacex jobs. Have the jobs and people seek education to get the high paying job.
