Manvendra Singh Gohil is famously the first openly gay Prince of India, hailing from Rajpipla, Gujarat. He is one of India's foremost LGBTQ activists and has traveled the world, speaking on many global platforms. He's been on the Oprah Winfrey Show 3 times, among others.
Manvendra Singh Gohil founded a charity, Lakshya Trust, which actively works with the LGBT community. Through this, he has met and counselled many people who have come to him.
In this talk, Prince Manvendra addresses the little thought about effects on the wives of gay men in India, both physical and emotional. He narrates his life experiences and the stories of men and women he met, which all led to the first of it's kind study in India on the wives of gay men. When Manvendra Singh Gohil, the first openly gay prince of India, came out to his family more than a decade ago, it resulted in his mother taking out a newspaper advertisement disowning him.Gohil set up the Lakshya Trust, a charity for LGBT people in his conservative home state, made an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and has been using his high status to help the LGBT community. He has now thrown open his palace doors to vulnerable Indians who’ve been shunned by their families for their sexuality, and is providing them support, training to find jobs, and a home to call their own. As more people come out now, the more marginalized come forward, they never dared to talk about it because it would be made fun of. Read up, they have always existed in our history

Looks like a lot has changed for the better for him since that secret princes documentary. He was very afraid and it seems like he has really embraced who is is and has gotten so public and is really doing a lot to help the situation in India. I imagine it has been very difficult and scary for him. I don't know him but I'm proud of him for standing up and speaking out against his familial pressures and an ancient way of life.
