Yes. It’s human nature to think something is being taken from you rather than just given to others. That’s why this is such a hard thing to eradicate. Look at the leadership in Congress. They would rather get in bed with white supremacists and maintain their ‘power’ than stand for democracy. That’s how foul racism is.

I grew up in north and south carolina in the 50s and 60s and can verify what this man says. I still carry a streak of racism that I will sadly never fully eradicate. I carried more than a streak until I practiced medicine for 30 years and in that experience I learned everyone carries the same needs and hopes and dreams. I watch my children who are fortunate to see no divide. I still learn daily and i am optimistic. I agree with Mr King, together we all thrive, divided we all fail.

I've been away for decades, but I still hear the same sort of nonsense when I visit relatives (most of whom, have never been on an airplane) over Christmas holiday. I remember in very early grade school a very loving teacher pulling 10 year old me to the side and telling me that the N word was not a word that I should ever use, and helping me understand why. The word was part of my normal vocabulary as a child. And the culture back home in which I was steeped as a child has not changed. @@jcook311 No Labron is not greedy for getting what a wealthy beyond imagination corporation is willing to pay him. My answer to your question is what you are missing that same corporation who lobbied for tax cuts, is the greed that is able to pay Labron a ridiculous amount of money. Like all these big companies that are some how people too. Citizens United v. FEC, the Supreme Court asserted that corporations are people. Greed.

He made so many excellent points but a few that sticks is acknowledgement. So many times I hear denial about systematic racism as if somehow admitting the pain of others is a direct slight to you, it is not. It is the 1st step in understanding and resolving issues vs sweeping it under the rug and attempting to make those that do feel like they're the problem. In America we love to minimalize anything we don't agree with or don't want to hear. It's not being "woke" to be educated or empathetic. Thank you sir

@@grahamt5924 agreed. It's difficult to not be self interested. You take that feeling and scale it to the majority group and you set the table for oppressive and or dismissive behavior towards the minority group. This is why it's so important for the people in the majority group to say "whoa this behavior is not cool" which can be hard because 1. It doesn't impact you 2. You are benefiting.

The part near the end when he said “get uncomfortable” was telling. It’s the very reason these reactionary reforms are being proposed and enacted in various educational systems, most notably in the South. Anything that might make a student feel bad about him/herself is hereby forbidden to be part of the curriculum.

Great presentation. Your breakdown was spot on. Gave me memory of several military situations I have lived through during active duty. Fortunately on most occasions I had people step up and do what was right. My all time favorite example was overseas in Okinawa Japan 1978. Without being long winded, this person became the mentor and example I always tried to aspire too during active duty. Even to this day it still inspires me. I also firmly believe as you, that our education system needs to be re-vamped. Much of what I learned (about slavery, oppression and more)during my college years should have been taught during grade school and higher. Thank you so much. Wishing you much more success on your goal. USMC Ret.

I too feel the depth of the truth, with tears of joy to hear it. The articulation of the legacy of racism informs us of a lost experience of care of each other, of suppression of love for us all., of the installation of the story of fear and loss effecting all different cultures and people. The message of Mr. Ellis should be in every pulpit of every church in that single Sunday hour of separation/segregation in the USA, bringing the true and free message of Love,

As a white female who grew up in Detroit I saw a lot of racism. I was also lucky enough to be exposed to many different cultures. When I left Detroit I literally shook the dust from my feet and never looked back! I was so disgusted by the bad attitude of most of the people living there that it took a very long time to purge that from my system. Now I am very grateful to say that I see what's on the inside of a person, NOT what is on the outside! Thank you so very much for your 15 minutes! 🌞🌞🌞🙏

12:25 I can't believe a grown man with breath in his lungs walked onto a stage and said those words to a group of people. Accessory to murder? Folks, there isn't even a reason to sit at a table and share a beer with this man and have an honest dialogue. When someone has moved into the realm of saying silence is tantamount to murder, convincing that individual that they're in the wrong is a complete waste of time in itself.
