Pain is subjective. As someone from a third world country and was homeless in high school with no food, the pain she went through in her life sounds really 'easy' - - but pain is subjective at the end of the day; what matters is how we use the pain.

Totally true.... But given her position as speaker of an event which is broadcasted worldwide, it would add credibility if the examples are relatable (by bigger audience). People pay to attend these events so the organizers should pick most suitable topic on the qualification of the speaker.

You all people who criticize her speech, I don't understand what is all the hate about, she did a great speach, 1st of all I'm sure it's not easy to do and prepare a speach in front of that amount of people, 2nd yes she gives examples from her own life experience, but it helps to understand the message , and 3rd considering that she is not being paid for that, I think the least we have to do is respect her.

Xenia, thank you so much for this insight. I have been struggling with the pain and the grief for the last 850 days of having had zero contact with my Daughters because of a custody battle. This talk has given me great insight to not only my situation but also with my Daughters. I love your TedX talks Xenia, they are incredibly helpful and full of wisdom. This talk about growth and channelling pain to harness the energy to transform is invaluable. This TedX talk is exactly what i needed in this very dark period where I have been searching for a path to overcome this pain. This TedX talk is very practical, I loved the analytical paper exercise about overcoming pain and using it positively to create the plan and then take the leap forward with action. I am a huge fan of yours, you are an awesome role model! God Bless you Xenia! Thank You for sharing your wisdom with us. You are my Muse as a storyteller and film maker. Hope to work with you one day soon on a feature film that I am writing (and will direct) specifically with you in mind as the protagonist. Like you stated in your conclusion Xenia, 'life should be about thriving; use pain as a powerful tool to go to the next level'. I am channelling the pain of my absence from my Daughters lives, like what you have experienced with your Father, inspired by you as my Muse, into that story written for you as an actor and as the gift for my Daughters for when we are reconnected again. I believe tat this will happen. I will write a masterpiece feature screenplay inspired by you. Thank You Xenia!

This is extremely poor. I could, actually I will, stand up on a TEDx stage and tell the world how pain can be turned into power. Physical, emotional and mental.

I would like to hear your story. I stumbled upon this Ted talk because of the title. I have endured pain (body and soul) and, long story short, I´ve worked with patients that have had chronic pain. I was just thinking, right before reading your comment, that I might listen to influential people what they have to say, when they bring up others. Others that never ever have a chance to stand in front of a crowd and talk about their life. That is deep. If I one day have a great economy, my dream is to actually bring forward the non-celebrities, and the non (apparent) influencers and the ones that are not economically rich. For me these are rich people. Full of life wisdom. They live the real life, day to day. I see people around me (but not enough) who´s life one cannot even imagine they even survived. We cannot compare. Still, we, who are able to read this, are probably very privileged. The ones suffering for real, are clinging to just surviving this minute. God bless you Alex J, and I hope to, one day, hear your story and it does´t have to be on a TEDx stage. Take care!

Well, first of all I would like to say I admire you because you are one of the few social influencer who doesnt sexualize your image. But I would like to add something for you to reflect on, and I think its one of the reasons that has brought success to me besides growing up outside my comfort zone. I think that one thing you should include is thinking of the bigger picture instead of the immediate reward or the immediate positive feedback. You see, I think one of the main reasons that society has gone the wrong way is that people want it all, and they want i right now. People don´t plan ahead or invest, their, time, money etc, in a bigger future rewar. Well, just something to think about. Hope you read it someday.

What is the definition of success as this word can mean many things? If the speaker defined this term to include successful people as compared to unsuccessful people that could alienate members of her audience.
