This talk explored the value of HBCUs to the college landscape.
Dr. Harry L. Williams became the 10th president in the 124-year history of Delaware State University on Jan. 10, 2010. His DSU tenure has been defined by his visionary goal of leading the University to become the number one Historically Black University in the country. He has become well- known throughout the state and beyond through his “friend-raising” efforts and his success in focusing attention on the many outstanding attributes and achievements of DSU. He is married to Dr. Robin S. Williams and their union has produced two sons, Austin and Gavin.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I've never heard them called "historically white institutions" , lol. we say PWIs (predominantly white institutions) . in the south , when speaking of 4 year colleges , you either go to a PWI or an HBCU . I went to a PWI in Louisiana & would like to go to an HBCU for my next degree .

Most HBCU's are poorly financially managed and operate at red-line or in the red year to year. They typically run million dollar operating budget deficits, meanwhile increasing their operating budgets: increasing pay/provisions to sub-par university staff, executives and professors. Most have small endowments or cash reserve, so borrowing to PAY THE OPERATING DEFICIT is common and foolish. Austerity cuts are needed!

HBCU BLESSINGS TO YOU. The HBCUS were NEVER properly funded in the first place. If you don't have the proper financial funding then you are always operating in the RED. They make something out of nothing.

Dee Swint this isn’t true. Accrediting agencies regulate all institutions of higher education. Part of the accreditation process is to ensure that the institutions operate according to their established policies; one of the policies is to ensure proper financial operations of the institution

@@KBTreDAWG2K10 That may be somewhat correct. Yet in the end if you don't have proper funding or adequate resources you are always are going to be stealing from yourself in order to fix another problem. DUE TO LACK OF FUNDING... 💯 👍🏾
