As I watched this gentleman and as he spoke about the Alpha males it came to mind I know women in leadership positions that have many traits of the Alpha male.

Leadership is situation based. He exaggerates and generalizes the alpha leader. A woman's approach to leadership, however, can bring a big change to an environment and culture and I completely agree on that point.

Both figuratively and literally diversity in leadership results in the most success. Earth itself is biodiverse and therefore more capable of beautifully incredible and diverse existence, let us take notes!

Bruce lee stated be like water. There are multiple leadership styles and numerous types of personalities, people learn differently and are motivated as well as driven for more than 1 reason. 1 type of leader would not be as effective leading an opposite follower..... Adaptation ensures success

Unfortunately all of these adaptable, honest, authentic people get pushed aside by egotistical bullies whom then become our leaders!!! We need to start a whole new egalitarian social philosophy style of governing that will run parallel and then watch as the old system crumbles. This is already happening.

Exactly! Many people think domineering people should have power over others. When they do this, they end up getting played.
@susana4434

The reason why I think the egoistic and bullies become leaders is because nobody speaks up... every body knows who they are but hardly ever speaks up.

@@susana4434 correct. You have to be GREAT at your job, learn everyone else’s job, never say “no” to more tasks and responsibilities...then, you speak up. You then speak for everyone.

Being an “alpha” isn’t about being the strongest power holder or being domineering - it is about being the best at what the team values. You are dominant because you are the best You are dominant because you create most value You are dominant because people follow you - because it is in their best interest to do so If you are not an alpha you are not a leader
@GosiaOver

I think the difference as always lies in motivation... You can be either: domineering or being the best at what the team values, or both or even something totally different. depending on the principles behind your actions. However naturally for a while you can still exhibit the same attitudes to someone with different motivation, and convincing everyone around that they are equal, but eventually results reflects our motives and drives. And I am sure that the critical audience as the working environment generally is, will asses your motivation correctly, whichever it may be and therefore leadership style you represent will reflect on the attitudes and behavior of your team.

Zed, you said it right. He only cared about his alpha male tag line and pidgeon holing all current leaders into a one dimensional stereotype. Respect is good. Getting buy in from the team is good. So is decisive action and vision. Men and woman of all walks of life are able to be alphas who lead in the right way.

You are dominant because domination is important to you; domination usually results in pushing your view and ignoring others. Usually resulting in sub standard results, although benefitting the domineer.

1st, we don't know the constraints of the situation in the story he tells. 2nd, if the shape of a table is the excuse one uses to say leadership is effective or ineffective is quite ridiculous. 3rd, just because someone has a prominent seat at a table does not confer dominance as an alpha male. One can only claim this title in the midst of the action. 4th, alpha's can be female. 5th, the behavior described during the intro is not correct. Those actions if used in a situation of life and death would most certainly yield a negative outcome.

So hard for bullying men to not see the problem with their way of being. Even though it is the newest and least successful in the history of the globe.
