Lennart Green is the Swedish card trick maestro and a world champion close-up/card magician. However, he prefers to be introduced as "misdirector". In 1991 he won the grand prize in close-up card magic from the International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM), sometimes called the "Olympics of magic." He might've won it in 1985 also, except his act of seemingly impossible cardplay fooled even the judges. In 1991, he performed the same act but insisted that the judges themselves shuffle the cards to prove that he used no stooges. The judges then awarded him first place. He appeared at TED already in February 2005, and at TEDxNorrköping, September 2011, he was invited as an honorary guest. However he offererd a bonus show together with his friend, Niklas Lennartsson. Jointly they entertained the audience at TEDxNorrköping to an unadvertised bonus show on close-up card magic.
Niklas' specialty is card magic and his repertoire extends across complicated gambling techniques, cups-and-balls and 'con' magic. Niklas has been performing in New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, London, Phonix, Macedonia, and Bangkok.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, selforganized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. *

Lennart Green is king, he shouldn't be playing to a small audience that don't appreciate what he is saying. He is incredibly funny and a great original magician. Fantastic routine ...

I find it funny how everyone is so concerned with his rope gag trick but yet the things he does with cards is way cooler. Btw the main trick he does here is called rainman.

For starters, there's no basis for your claim "everyone". Secondly, those who comment on that might understand how the card tricks are done, but clueless to how the rope thing is done.

They’re laymen. So what if you can pull off a complicated trick from a book that took you 12 months to master? A simple rope trick that you mastered in a week can be even more magical. It’s about creating magic in the eye of the spectator. That’s the problem with pseudo magicians, they think technical skill is everything lol Having said that, Lennart Green is a master magician.

I suppose that he has a spot in the long rope where it can be torn apart easily and a short rope that is already around his waist. He places himself in front of the spot, tears the long rope apart, simultaneously grabs the two loose ends of the short rope around his waist in each hand and performs the rest. Note that after the trick he is still holding the rope in his fists (trying not to let go since it would reveal the loose ends) and quickly jumbles the rope(s) together.Still, very impressive!

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Seriously, don't read on if you don't want the illusion to be ruined. The rope trick is done by having a length of rope already around his waist and then cutting the original rope when he is stood in front of it. After he does that then he simply holds all both ropes together in his hands. Notice how he doesn't let go of the rope after it 'goes through' him. I don't know if that makes any sense but just think that there are two ropes and that one is already around his waist from the beginning, then you should be able to figure it out.

Thats true but he was claiming to use misdirection to fool them but it was all burnable slight of hand. Comparing James Brown or Apollo Robbins for example then his routine uses a shameful amount of misdirection to truly demonstrate it.

Unpopular opinion: This is a pretty unpolished performance, complete with weak patter, suspicious moves, and a couple flashes. Eg, see beginning when he puts the four 10s faceup on top of the facedown deck for no good reason before separating the packet again; just when eyes of scrutiny are on this suspicious action, he flashes a card sleight. This is an intermediate card trick employing intermediate moves, based on a trick called oil & water. It's something a beginner should be able to perform after a solid month or two's practice.
