Life has taught Travis that pain, difficulty, and challenge are inevitable components of the human experience. Who we become in the midst of these things, is a choice. Travis makes it his mission to help as many people as possible choose positive personal growth as an outcome from the challenges of life. His philosophy is anchored in personal experiences that include overcoming obesity, paying off debt, studying/working in the engineering field, and becoming a Special Forces Medic and Combat Veteran. Travis believes that character is best developed in the pursuit of freedom. Life has taught Travis that pain, difficulty, and challenge are inevitable components of the human experience. As a child who suffered physical and emotional child abuse, by a mother who herself suffered these things as a child- neither of us believing to be lovable- have chosen very different strategies for survival. One chose to embrace the false security in Narcissistic traits and behaviors. The other found this kind of pain just as terrible, but embraced quality of character to not only survive, but to thrive. Enduring Freedom is a new concept, but one I intend to become educated in and embrace, for you are correct, freedom is the goal and challenges are the fuel to getting there. Thank you for adding another layer to my journey. I am forever grateful to you and many others who have contributed with the science of happiness and positive psychology to my growth journey.

I love your TEDx talk. When you said, "Character is best developed in the pursuit of freedom," and "If you want freedom, understand that pain is the necessary part of acquiring freedom." I am encouraged to go through the pain. Thank you Travis.

Very inspirational, I got picked on in school because I was different, I dressed different, made my own style, I was a tomboy but wore dresses and did my hair and makeup but I would be out playing star wars with the boys, would be hiking and camping when the weather was nice, I was a cheerleader and in the marching band the other cheerleaders didn't like me called me names, picked on me even ended up in physical fights when 2 or 3 girls would gang up on me and start a fight. It's a shame that other kids need to pick on others to feel good about themselves. My mom always told me they are insecure about something in there life that's why they pick on you and other kids. Those life lessons help us grow and become who we are we learn and grow from them with the proper guidance. I absolutely love these speeches you give it's truly motivational. I wish you and your fiance the very best. Have a blessed week. I'm looking forward to future content.

Kasandra. You sound exactly like me! Except that I blew up Barbie at age 7 with my only friends [boys]. GI Joe did it. I am Asian. The girls hated me. And there were fights. The girls stopped showing up. Then I taught other girls how to fight. I am tiny, but mighty. sounds like you are Mighty. Yes, violence is wrong. but they pick on the one that is different. And now there is social media.
