Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got to talking about investment and money. I started investing below the $100k mark and in the first 2 months, my portfolio was reading $234,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest a huge percentage of my profit and it got more interesting.! For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home at the beginning of summer.

Hi. I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second child. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks

I have been looking for a "talk" like this for a long time. Someone who had *this* view of things and could explain it in *this* way. Following this "talk" was like meeting a brother. In my professional life, I am a software developer. Developing software requires a natural tendency to *simplify*, even to the point of *cutting out* everything that is not necessary, and a natural tendency to avoid mistakes, rather than chasing perfection. You can therefore understand why I have recognized myself so much in this "talk." Thanks to TED Talks for offering it, and thanks to William Green for this contribution.

Currently I'm just being smart and frugal with my money, I'm in the green 47% over the last 23 months and l've accumulated over $70K in pure profits from DCA’ing into stocks, ETFs, dividends and futures. However I’ve been in the red for a month now. I work hard for my money, so investing is making me a nervous sad wreck. I don’t know if I should sell everything, sit and just wait.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

As a long term investor, the key to winning is "diversification". You shouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. An associate of mine lost almost half of his inheritance in the very recent Luna crypto saga. Personally, as one who has been into Real Estates for as long as I can remember, I made my first million earlier this year from stocks alone (through the help of a pro though). I also experiment with a couple of other things. Imagine what the situation would had been given the real estates market if I were solely banking on it.

Putting well-earned money into the stock market can be over emphasized for first-time investors, unlike a bank where interest is sure thing! Well, basically times are uncertain, the market is out of control, and banks are gradually failing. Nice talk 🤩🤩🤩 I agree with almost everything he said. But you may have noticed that people are not specific. For example: they will give some examples or quotes relating to stupidity and then relate it to trading. Which is fine but this is not going to make you any money. It will make you look better when you talk about it though. My simple rule of trading is also buy low sell high or sell high buy low. Manage risk and follow all the basics. But the most important thing that I believe is being truthful to yourself meaning (trying to be specific here 😂), say if you have done your analysis and bought a share and you expect a 3% profit on the trade whilst risking 1% of your equity. The trade first goes in your favour and then sits there in a range for few hours and you have (I am sure you have) seen this scenario in the past and you know the odds of the trade hitting 3% are decreasing. But that’s when hope comes in and then fear and finally ego takes over. No matter what happens with that specific trade, you may win or you may lose. You have lost. Why because you managed to enter the cycle of hope/fear/ego… Winning a trade which wasn’t meant to win will hurt you more than closing it when you know you are no longer a trader but something else.

Great talk but misleading numbers. The 375 rule assumes that the pension pot only grows by inflation. I would invest in a 60:40 diversified stock bond index fund to sustain a much higher spending level.

This is a great talk. Also, I completely understand not investing in what you don't understand, but I also believe you can't ignore an entire asset class, so you might wanna give Bitcoin a good investigation. Consider the possibility that there is a non zero risk of maintaining a zero position in Bitcoin. If nothing else, consider that if the thesis is correct, a 1% allocation could hedge your bonds, like Mass Mutual and New York Life are doing. Or 10% if you can get behind Paul Tudor Jones' more aggressive recommendation. You mention Bill Miller, well, he has a relatively large position in Bitcoin as well. These are some of the most risk averse institutions and greatest macro investors of all time. What do they know that you don't?

Thanks a lot, Steven. You make a great point. I've been spending a lot more time lately trying to educate myself about Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. It's an extraordinarily important innovation with profound ramifications. So I definitely need to learn much more, while also resisting the dangerous urge to pile in because it's too painful to miss out!

One rebuttal, when he says he won't invest in BTC is it because he doesn't understand why it was created or is it because his idols tell him not too?

I started investing when I was 27 with Shay, mostly through sweat equity. I just turned 32 and this last month was the first time that my passive income broke $100k for the month. This is solid advice! DO IT!

My advice to everyone is this : if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to make investments. Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. Thanks to my FA, my portolio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.

Nice. People often underestimate financial advisors' importance. Over 50 years of data reveal that those who work with advisors typically earn more than those who go it alone. I've been fortunate to work with one for 13 years, resulting in a $1 million portfolio, largely from early investments in AI and other growth stocks.

I have been investing for 30 years now. Started my career on Wall Street. I will share some free advice with all of you. One, avoid scammers and get rich quick schemes. Financial scams will not only wipe you out financially but will mentally scar you forever. Second, invest in income producing ETF's and closed end funds. You make money like "real estate rental income" in both good and bad times. A good book on this topic "The income factory". And finally, spend less than what you make and don't take on debt. Hope this helps. All the best to you. 😊
