I scratch built this plane I call a Tee Stik. It is a scaled down variation of the Ugly Stick theme sized and shaped to suit my desires and to fit my engine/radio equipment. It has a 15" wingspan and is powered by a Cox TD .010. It has a 10ml fuel tank in the fuselage for extended run time vs the stock Cox tank. It has a Spektrum receiver operating Dymond 47 servos. 2 channel rudder/elevator only. Battery is a 170mah NiMH 6V pack. It is covered with Ultracote Lite and hand cut Monokote graphics. Total weight is 3.7oz. Filmed with a GoPro Hero 3+ mounted to my hat.

I have happy memories of flying an all balsa pylon free flight model with a Pee Wee 020 when I was 15. It cavorted all over the sky and glided like a brick. I enjoyed it so much I forgot to go to a party and got an earful. I now have most of the TD Cox range. I had a TD 049 which had to have a silencer to compete in half a. with a sloworm. I didn’t do very well as everyone else had drilled holes in theirs!

I love 'em! Can't say they've never let me down, though. Getting a good run and flight with a Cox engine is sometimes challenging but rewarding. I tend to have better luck after all these years of tinkering with them than I did as a kid. This little Tee Stik got a lot of flights on it this year and is currently hanging above my computer desk with a handful of other small planes as I type this. :)

Thanks but this one actually is only 2 channel, rudder and elevator. I have built some small 4-channel Cox birds but they are a lot of trouble to sort out, getting all the radio gear, pushrods, etc into such a small package with a battery and fuel tank while still balancing correctly. See my Sliver video for a 4-channel Cox TD .020 powered plane.

@@homienat3374 A Babe Bee .049 with a 6x3 prop shouldn’t be too fast. I’ve done lots of throttled Cox engines but usually enjoy the simplicity of running them without the added weight and complexity of a throttled setup. I’ve built some speedy .049 planes meant for high performance .049s but did tue maiden and trimout flights with Surestart and Babe Bee engines to keep them slow until they were dialed in. Then I’d bolt up a hotter engine for the fast stuff. Have fun!

thanks for posting. nice work. some observations. based on the poor glide performance, i would guess the model is heavy for its size. thanks to the use of a Correctly selected profile for the main wing, there should be plenty of lift. the built-up main wing contributes to the model having a distribution of mass that is More stable than that of yer typical foamie. is the aoa of the main wing zero. was the main wing trailing edge left a bit thick, deliberately. was the choice to not add sweep the horiz-stab leading edge, deliberate. at :55, note that rudder deflection is Not uniform, due to the way in which material has been removed from the rudder's lower edge. if desired, the weight of each stab could be reduced, a bit, by removing material. i never knew a rudder-roll was Possible. cheers
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 6 жыл бұрын
The incidence is 0 as you mentioned. The airfoil is simply a scaled down LaStick(originally a 21" span). The tail shape was my choice. There is plenty of rudder authority under power. It needs high rates after the engine quits which I forgot to select on this flight. That is why I couldn't complete my turn on approach. Don't get too scientific about it. It's been a fun little project and it's a blast to fly! Rudder rolls are possible on many airplanes. Without ailerons, you must have plenty of dihedral to initiate roll. I have rolled plenty of planes with the rudder only over the years.

Wow. Seems a bit harsh. I agree that one is always learning in this(or any other) hobby. I have been around aviation most of my life because it is a passion of mine. I hold a Private Pilot's license with an Instrument Rating. I've been involved with several homebuilt aircraft projects as well as flying a variety of General Aviation aircraft. I've been building and flying RC planes for 10 years and actively pursue knowledge and cameraderie in this hobby. I've successfully built and flown over 30 model planes. A few were of my own design, some others built from plans or kits. I also fly ARFs and RTF foamies but mostly enjoy flying wooden models that I built myself and powering them with various glow engines. I have a substantial interest in Cox engines and tend to build lots of planes to fly them on. It makes me happy. The Tee Stik is flying very well now with a few minor control throw adjustments. I'm happy with it. If you don't care for it, that is something I can't help. Balsa wood is fairly affordable and one can cut and shape it however he desires. I try not to get into many online discussions over such matters since I would rather spend my spare time building or at the flying field but I felt obligated to reply to you. This little model was never intended to be a perfectly engineered aviation marvel. I just wanted a tiny, quick, challenging, and fun little 2 channel plane to fly with a Cox TD .010. I would say it's a success despite my "dumb luck". All the best to you and your endeavors.
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 6 жыл бұрын
If this dialogue is NOT about my "stupid model" then why are you here commenting about it? I find so much satisfaction in building and flying these models and also sharing them with others who enjoy them. Most of the old Cox engines seem to have ended up in the hands of collectors who don't fly them. I just like to see them living a proper life. I've made friends across the country who have similar interests and we now enjoy getting together and flying our models, partly due to my video uploads. Great fun! No hurt feelings here. My skin is thick. I just don't get why others sometimes get so upset by my efforts. Please feel free to build, fly, video, and post up your Cox powered models for all to enjoy or critique if they wish. The more, the merrier in my opinion! Is that grown up enough?

you've forced me into this, tb. you keep, IMPROPERLY, putting a personal spin on my non-subjective comments. ever hear of the concept of dispassionate discourse. i'm guessing not. perhaps, you should consider disabling comments, in the future. that'd be reel neighborly. cheers
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 6 жыл бұрын
I think dispassionate discourse went out the window when you accused me of having "dumb luck" and referred to the airplane a a "stupid model". It requires respect for anyone involved in the discussion. I usually enjoy aeromodeling and discussions about it but there are exceptions. Still, I haven't insulted you. I will leave the comments enabled. Who knows, maybe someone will stumble across this dialogue and benefit from it. That would be even more "reel neighborly". As for aircraft design, I haven't run across one yet that doesn't have some sort of flaw. That's just a factor that we deal with in aviation and life in general. Some of my planes with handling or design flaws have become some of my favorite ones to fly. They add a bit of challenge and uniqueness, a bit of character so to speak. Ask anyone who flies a Mustang, Cub, or Pitts Special if it could have been improved upon. But still, they have a cult following after all these years.
