Thanks! These POV flying videos were made with a GoPro camera mounted to the bill of a ball cap. This allows the airplane to stay in the frame, as the camera sees what you see as you fly around. This technique doesn’t allow you to zoom while flying but it keeps the plane in the frame during the flight and allows you to film without an assistant.

Think this would work on a Carl Goldberg Gentle Lady with a wing pod?
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 2 ай бұрын
Yes, it would work great. I’ve seen several Gentle Lady gliders powered by .049s. I would recommend using at least a Black Widow reedie or a TD engine, not the lower powered reed valve models like Babe Bees and Surestart. Good luck!

@TeeBeeZee

I still had some cans of Top Flite Lusterkote fuel proof paint back then. The yellow boat was painted with that and several coats of clear as well. The brown boat was just brushed with thinned polyester resin to retain the wood exterior.

Model rockets can take a lot of time to properly build and paint but I guess one should not get too attached to any individual rocket! Some of the small to moderately sized vehicles might be fitted with streamers instead of parachutes - less drift although the faster landings increase the chance of fin damage and so forth.

Wow! Brings back some memories, had a Sig Hummer with a TD 049 pressure-fed fuel, that thing was fun! I flew the heck out of it! Got a WN version and building it, electric will be less messy, but I will miss that smell of burned methanol, nitro, and castor oil! Might try to build another one with a TD 049 I found on eBay. Gotta be careful with it, my eyes are not as good as they were then!

I feel terrible about your Crossfire! Almost made me cry! Why didn't you find it in that huge, open field with short grass? Did you lose sight when you looked away to check on your igniter & electrical connection? Damn!
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 5 ай бұрын
The field looks deceiving in this video. The area inside the model club fence boundary is mowed. Beyond the fence lies thousands of acres of thick salt grass that’s infested with rattlesnakes. The Crossfire went way beyond that fence line. It was under parachute when it finally drifted out of sight down range.

Hi there, ive just bought a new Avistar Elite arf. I have a Saito 62 which is 10cc. Would this engine in your opinion fly the plane comfortably or woukd it struggle? Kind regards.
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 7 ай бұрын
Congrats on the plane! I haven’t flown any models in about 3 years due to life getting so busy, but I still have all my models including this one. As you probably know, mine has an OS .46AX 2-stroke engine. The plane is fairly large and I wouldn’t want it to have any less power than it does. It’s a perfect match, really. I’m sure the model would fly with the .62 4-stroke but I’m not sure if it would be as strong. They might actually be closely matched. One thing to consider is the props that are recommended for that Saito. If the diameter is too large, you might have ground clearance issues. If the clearances are good, I’d say try it! Be sure it balances well first! Mine was far too noseheavy as it came. I had to relocate some of the equipment inside and move the battery back, etc to get it balanced properly.
@easystar123
@easystar123 6 ай бұрын
Many thanks for your reply. It was very helpful. I'm going to put larger wheels on the Avistar as I may be using a 13x6 prop instead of the 12x6 that I normally use on the Saito 62. Just to give a bit more thrust. The Saito 62 is lighter than the OS 46ax so it may balance OK without having to add tail weight. I'm just a fourstroke fanatic though I have three planes that are each powered with an OS 55AX two-stroke and fly really well. Your Avistar seems the perfect match for the OS 46AX. I enjoy watching the video. Today I was installing the servos onto the servo tray and have now the servo tray screwed into the plane. Earlier in the week I installed the four servos onto the wings. I normally epoxy the wings together. Did you glue your wings or keep them seperate? Regards Aidan

That little 56 hauls it around pretty good. Glad to hear you call it a glow engine. I completely fail to understand how our glow engines came to be called "nitro". I mean when you're running a maximum of 15% how is that "nitro"??? Most of my glow engines run just fine with no nitro.
@TeeBeeZee
@TeeBeeZee 7 ай бұрын
True. The whole nitro engine thing seems to be a result of marketing RC cars to young folks for many years. The magazine covers and ads were full of “nitro” references. I’ve been inactive in the RC hobby for a few years due to life getting very busy but I still have all my planes and gear, including the 4Star 40. It eas one of my main “daily beaters”. Looking forward to having time to start playing with airplanes again.

Would an .049 be too much engine for this plane?
@TeeBeeZee

Yes! The size, weight, and power of the .049 would be too much in my opinion. It would fly more like a pylon racer and have a higher wing loading. It’s not an airplane that really likes to go that fast.
