Most people and most kids in high schools know they are not monitored actively
@TammyD1233 жыл бұрын
It’s not uncommon to see some students around after school, coming and going for practices, club meetings, working on projects, and running odd errands for teachers. The office staff had probably gone home and since the majority of the student body had as well, the cameras were likely not monitored at that time of day. To be honest, I’m surprised that in 2013, this school had as many seemingly decent quality cameras as it did since school shooting weren’t as feared as they are today. In 2013, I would have been able to walk in and out of our local schools without anyone questioning it especially if I appeared to have a purpose. Today, all school doors are locked and no one gets in without being buzzed in by office staff, having a specific and necessary purpose for being there, and signing in which includes having their photo taken and printed on to a computer generated pass that details their identity (which is verified with valid ID), purpose, and destination and which must be displayed on their person while on school property. As a parent, I’m very grateful that our children and school staff are protected but it’s sad how much things have changed in such a short time.
@alissaconant79953 жыл бұрын
@@TammyD123 I graduated HS in 2008 and we had zero cameras and security guards. I can name plenty of occasions where I snuck off campus early or just wandered the halls instead of being in class. My kids are now in Elementary school and every hallway has cameras, the front doors to the school are locked tight after the first bell rings and you have to be buzzed in after identifying yourself if you drop your kid off late. Gates surround the entire property and all kids wear a badge that scans them in everytime they walk through a door on campus they even have security guards walking the halls throughout the day. They even have school shooter drills where they practice the teacher barring the door and all of the sudents hide in the classroom away from the windows...its horrifying as a mother to learn that they have to practice for the possibility that someone might come and shoot up the school...when I was a kid I was under the impression that being caught on fire was a normal occurance and thats why we needed to learn stop drop and roll and quicksand was common.

Reading an article online: "While awaiting his trial in 2014, Chism committed a chillingly similar attack on another female staff member in the youth facility he was staying in. He apparently made sure he wasn’t being watched by anyone when beginning his attack. As the 29 year old woman walked into a locker room, Chism took his shoes off so his steps wouldn’t make noise. He slammed her up against the wall, choked, punched, and stabbed her with a pencil. The woman was saved after a staff member heard the commotion and rushed in to save her. In connection to that crime, he was charged with attempted murder by strangulation, assault with intent to murder, kidnapping and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon."
