It took me way too long to register that "shoot your pet for $300" must have been referring to a photography shoot. o.o' I remember being fascinated by these kinds of magazines as a kid because I wanted to live vicariously through them so I could pretend I was living the life media said I should be without actually having to commit to it, but I never bought any. Instead, I made due with the next best thing - the one TV Guide book my grandma gave me that had some articles about popular Nickelodeon shows at the time (pretty sure she picked it up because it had Pokemon on the cover), whatever magazines were lying around at the doctor's office or my piano teacher's waiting room, and my younger brothers' educational kids' magazines that had silly games and quizzes in them (though I cannot for the life of me remember what it was called).

i think teen magazines are kinda like dvds. may seem outdated but they're dirt cheap to make and they're upmarked so much that buying even can cover the cost of like eight and someone out their will buy them. usually it's an impulse buy in the grocery store. there's a term for this but i can't remember what. that had a similar thing in the early 1900s called "pulp fiction".

When i was about 12, my sister bought a one direction j-14 or tiger beat issue and printed out several pictures of me and collaged them into the magazine (tyler oakley inspired). she sent the magazine to me in a care package when i was at camp, along with barbie doll heads and other various items, and the counselors / campers thought we were insane. i used to go insane over these , my sister is several years older than me so i grew up with her era of the magazines and mine. i had 5sos and 1d posters from floor to cieling, a MCR shrine above my windowsill, and a FOB collage on the tiny attic door in the bedroom. good times.

Around that time i had a friend who did buy a bunch of teen magazines and decorated her room with the posters of Jonas Brothers, all the Disney stars. Guess what. I actually still buy the J-14 magazines. I also have the 2023 issue that you read in the video and the one in the thumbnail. I started buying them since I saw they were a big deal in the 2010s and since I’m a sucker for 2010s nostalgia I decided to buy the issues starting in 2023. The 2023 issues are still good, they have lots of cool and helpful stuff (and news to help me catch up with today’s popular culture because your girl is behind 😅) and I love that they still do quizzes in the magazines. I love how that never went away. So yeah those magazines are awesome! Idk why I didn’t start buying them sooner lol
