My first show ever... Teenage Head in a field beside Zounds Records in Scarborough (I believe in 1982). Decided right there that I wanted to play music... total life changing event. These guys deserved far more recognition than they ever got.

Always pissed me off that they never played Houston, where I grew up. Seems like whenever they came down to the states, they’d only play in the midwest or the northeast. There were more than a few of us in Houston who had their records and would have loved to have seen them. Frankie was a true original, and Gord is one of the greatest and most overlooked punk rock guitarists of all time.
@servetheglobe4 жыл бұрын
Saw them so many times. That sound Gord Lewis could get... I remember carrying his Marshall amp head out to a car once after a gig after some gig in Toronto as a favor to somebody. It was like carrying a magic box. First outdoor concert I ever saw was Teenage Head back in 1980 or so. That massive sound Gord got filled the entire park and beyond. Saw Gord and Steve play with Johnny Thunders. Of all the gigs I saw of Thunders that remains the best one by far. Gord knew all the songs, even the third guitar parts, so John just sang and played the occasional lead. Wish they had made it to Houston, Austin, and so on. The shows were great.

Frankie was an innate trendsetter, forging his unique style. Every subtle move he made and every word he sang were distinctly his own. He exuded captivating charm, keeping spectators guessing with each unpredictable action. Those fortunate enough to know him carry an indelible mark left by his presence. Gord, a gentle spirit, never encroached upon others. Steve, a silent force, awaits his moment to convey his essence. Dave, a compassionate and amiable individual, graces us with his presence. It was an absolute joy to have crossed paths with each and every one of them.

Gordie's punk idol was Johnny Thunders. He managed to do more than Thunders while keeping that purely simple punk sound.

"He managed to do more than Thunders." Yeah okay. Even Gordie would beg to differ.
@servetheglobe4 жыл бұрын
@@misterslats Perhaps, but of all those influenced by John, Gord really has created a signature sound over many records and decades. Sure, Steve Jones has every devotee of Thunders in the rear when it comes to sales of one album so it's an uphill battle. Gord, who is so humble and shy, will, in time, be found by the tone chasers scouring for new sources of inspiration . Of course, I could be dead wrong in my fantasy of people discovering some rock and roll tone. I saw Thunders many times, even once or twice with Gord, so my thoughts are clouded.

Truly one of the best puck bands period. Saw them in Grade 9 at my HS too. Too many kids these days call themselves puck, but are from the suburbs. You can't say you're punk ... it's like the blues, you have to be born into it by circumstance. They came out of a recession plagued Hamilton. It's like great English punk born out of Thatherism, she destroyed the economy and that bred rebellious music.
@Brewzerr6 жыл бұрын
Some of the greatest punk bands ever came from the suburbs. Suburban boredom breeds punk attitude.
@Shikta-poobah675 ай бұрын
Yeah, what Brewzerr said. This ridiculous notion that punk was a phenomenon strictly based on the class system is a load of nonsense. Joe Strummer grew up with wealth and privilege. The Ramones were all a bunch of middle class suburban kids, that came together through boredom and a mutual love of the Stooges. Pretty much the same story with a million other of the original punk bands. A lot of so called punks liked to masquerade as being poor and working class, but it’s all for naught. Punk is just rebel music, and it doesn’t matter what background you come from, as long as you’re rebelling. It’s like that line from Brando in the Wild One: “What are you rebelling against, Johnny?”, and he responds with: “Whattaya got?”
