God, I love being a TURTLE!!!!!!! For older Millennial dudes like myself, this movie was a BIG part of our childhood. There was nothing cooler than the Ninja Turtles. And for my money, this is still the best movie. I wish they'd go back to making TMNT movies like this. Guys in turtle suits. The effects and puppetry still hold up after all this time. And they could do it even better now, because these late 80s animatronic heads weren't very comfortable to wear.

@@tacobellalugosi2527 Aye, I'm in the young Gen X camp myself, the TMNT cartoon in the 80s was my elementary school summed up in one show. I didn't get around to reading the original comic series from 1984 until after seeing this movie, which made me understand why my older brothers kept telling me that the movie was far closer to the original story than the cartoon. I do miss the old days when practical effects was king and movies had actual soul to them.

His son Brian Henson took over the Creature Shop when Jim died. Brian took the effects to the next level by using them to make a science fiction TV series called Farscape from 1999 to 2003. The actors/stuntmen who were in the turtle suits all had cameos in other roles that let them show their actual faces. - David Forman (Leonardo) also played a gang member. - Josh Pais (Raphael) also played the passenger in the taxi who caught a glimpse of the turtles. - Leif Tilden (Donatello) also played a messenger for the Foot Clan. - Michelan Sisti (Michelangelo) also played the pizza delivery driver, meaning he was playing the characters on both ends of that exchange of pizza and words!

"Does this make anyone want a pizza?" Pizza was popular in the US, but it really exploded thanks to the TMNT. Schools started having pizza parties, kids would have their birthday parties at pizza places, and fast food restaurants started adding their own pizza to their menu.. It really reached a new level that it's still at today, and it's thanks to the Turtles.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise began as an independent comic book by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The concept was based on a joke picture the pair drew of a turtle in a ninja outfit, because ninjas are known for being fast, stealthy, and graceful, while turtles...aren't. The original comic was first published in 1984, and was an homage and spoof on the then-current trend of gritty city-based comics, particularly Frank Miller's defining 1983 run of Daredevil (in fact, many features of the Turtles franchise are direct references to Daredevil: The Foot Clan is a reference to the Hand, Master Splinter is a nod to Matt Murdock's own mentor, Stick, and a minor character in the Turtles' background is implied to actually BE Daredevil, with the incident responsible for mutating the Turtles also being responsible for Matt getting his own powers and losing his sight). In spite of its goofy premise - and the stories DID lean into the inherent silliness of its concept with story arcs like an encounter with Dave Simms' Cerebus the Aardvark - it was quite dark and often bloody, and the Turtles didn't refrain from killing. Obviously, that meant when it sold well enough to option the licensing rights, it was decided to make a kid's cartoon out of it. The 1990 film is a pretty close adaptation of the original Mirage comics by Eastman and Laird. In particular, it adapts the original 1984 TMNT #1, Raphael, #1, Leonardo #1, the Exile arc at the farm, and the Return To New York arc. The film itself takes some elements from the much better-known 1987 Fred Wolf cartoon, (April as a reporter, rather than a scientist's assistant, different-colored masks for the Turtles, their love of pizza) but many kids of the 80s and 90s who didn't know about the comics (I didn't learn about them until I was in Middle School, maybe 2-3 years after the film came out) were confused by how it "deviated" from the cartoon. And the level of violence shocked parents, and the resulting backlash led to the Turtles not using their weapons at all in the second movie. Ah yes, New York in the late 80s and early 90s. That was a great era for criminal enterprises in the Big Apple. The depiction of April is one of the biggest influences of the 87 series. She actually doesn't even appear in the first issue, not making her first appearance until the second. But ever since April is usually the audience surrogate for introducing the Turtles and their backstory. The Turtle suits were done by the Jim Henson company, and remarkably they STILL hold up fairly well in this film (though the quality slips in the second and third film). If you pay close attention, each of the four even has a slightly different design. Raph, for instance, has a much more muscular build, and more scarring on his shell. It's especially impressive when they do the fight scenes that the stuntmen are actually able to move like they do. The first encounter between Casey and Raph comes from Raphael #1. Casey is probably even MORE unhinged than Raph in the books, and the two struck up a really close friendship because they're both hyperviolent lunatics with hearts of gold. Raph's anger issues ultimately set him up with the most complex character arc in the film, which made him the natural choice for the main focus character of the four Turtles. The origin story of the Turtles is largely the same across all of the iterations, though in some versions Splinter wasn't a pet of Hamato Yoshi, but he WAS Yoshi himself. The film uses a simplified version of the original comics, the only real omission being the Shredder's elder brother, Oroku Nagi (it was Nagi who wanted Tang Shen, and Yoshi killed him in self-defense when Nagi tried to rape her). Poor Nagi never makes it into adaptations, usually in favor of simplifying the story. Ironically, while the Shredder is by FAR the franchise's most iconic villain, he's actually a rather minor character in the original comics. To the point he's literally killed at the end of the first issue (he gets better, but doesn't really last a whole lot longer after that before Leo puts him down for good during Return to New York). The ambush of Raph and the fight in April's apartment and the antique store is taken from Leonardo #1, though in the books it was actually Leo who was ambushed and nearly killed by the Foot, not Raph. It's part of what made the group's defeat so devastating in the books; Leo was the best fighter of the four, and their leader, so without him they were at a severe disadvantage. Although Leo is the best and most disciplined fighter of the Turtles, it's generally established that Mike is the most naturally gifted of the four, he just doesn't take the training seriously. This is why Splinter gave him the nunchucku, because they're the most difficult weapon to use safely (and effectively). When Mike DOES decide to apply himself...well...you get the Last Ronin, which is pretty much the TMNT version of Old Man Logan, and it is NOT a pretty sight. In the original script, Tatsu KILLED the underling who tried to stop him from beating up the others. This made it into the novelization, but the sounds of him groaning and the others telling him he'll be ok were recorded afterwards to keep the film from being TOO dark. The farm was another arc taken from the books, though it was owned by Casey's family, not April's. The traded insults between Don and Casey while repairing the truck was right from that story, though it was Raph and Casey, instead. Leo's confidence was shattered after having nearly been killed, and Mike was so angry he was destroying training dummies. Blooper during the "Kodak Moment:" You can see the stunt performer's teeth when Don opens his mouth to laugh right before the scene cuts away. It's terrifying. f you pay close attention, the Turtle screaming Splinter's name on the rooftop is NOT Raph. It's actually Mike, who was supposed to have a much more complex character arc of not processing his emotions well. This was ultimately cut, (along with some 30 minutes of footage) but was supposed to tie into his conversation with Don while waiting for the pizza guy; Mike wasn't ignoring Don, he understood every word he was saying, and changed the subject to avoid having to deal with it. The final third of the film is drawn from a combination of the Return to New York arc (the Turtles return from their exile on the farm to finish the Foot Clan) and TMNT #1 (the rooftop battle against Shredder). There actually was a lot of tie-in advertising between the film and Pizza Hut when it was released (which is funny because it was Dominos that got product placement in the movie). Casey's no match for a ninja master unarmed, but put a piece of sporting equipment in his hands... LOL at you dancing along with the fight scene music. Never change, Dasha. Just as in the film, Leo is the only one of the Turtles to land a hit on Shredder one-on-one during the rooftop fight in TMNT #1. They eventually do have to resort to group tactics to defeat him the first time, rather than Splinter stepping in. During the final battle against Shredder in Return to New York, it's ultimately Leo who duels and kills him. There was an alternate ending filmed which saw April and Casey meeting with a comic book exec to pitch their idea for a book based on the Turtles, but are dismissed as being too ridiculous. The scene has April and Casey trying not to laugh because the Turtles are hanging outside the window behind the exec. And Mike falls off. Amusingly, Eastman and Laird did a comic adaptation of the film, which restores a few minor cut scenes and plot points.

It embraces the silliness of the 'teenage mutant ninja turtles fighting crime while eating pizza' concept and just runs with it. And it is a decent martial arts movie at the same time. A modern series which does the same thing are the Kung Fu Panda movies. The actor who played the pizza delivery boy in Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze also impressed the filmmakers so much that they gave him his own movie to star in: Surf Ninjas.

@@saagisharon8595 Close! The actor (whose name is Ernie Reyes Jr.) was actually one of three stuntmen who performed in the Donatello suit in the first Turtles movie. Reyes performed the martial arts stunts for Donatello, while Reggie Barnes performed Don's skateboarding stunts. The rest of the in-suit performance for Don was done by Leif Tilden.

While I'm not old enough to have seen this in theaters(I'm a little over a year younger than it), this is a classic movie. I was actually a huge fan of the 80s animated series(weirdly enough in that, Hamato Yoshi and Master Splinter were the same person, instead of one being the pet of the other) before discovering the movies existed.

Priviet Dasha, I've seen this movie so many times and I used to quote all the lines that would come up. This one is a classic, they have two more movies in this trilogy then they released a few in the 2010's that aren't even close to this original. There were action figures, cards, video games, and a cartoon as well. Nice reaction.

Actors who voiced the Ninja Turtles: Raphael: Josh Pais who was also in the Turtle suit. Leonardo: Brian Tochi who is best known in movies like Revenge of the Nerds and Police Academy 3 and 4. Michaelangelo: Robbie Rist, best known for playing Cousin Oliver in the old show The Brady Bunch. Donatello: Corey Feldman whom you may have seen in movies such as The Goonies, The Lost Boys and Stand by Me. Also this movie features a young Sam Rockwell as one of the gang members near the end of the film.

3:29 Ninja turtles don't need as much money, they usually collect things and make their own stuff. Alot of the things in their home is taken from city dumps, like old furniture. All they pretty much need is some random food and other little expense money. As to where do the Ninja Turtles get money: - They sell some of what they collect from abandoned places and trash. They can also make tools/weapons/gadgets from such things, so I would imagine they sell some of those too. - Collecting from where they move around. Sometimes people drop money, it ends up in the streets and sewers. - Doing odd jobs here and there where they don't have to seen, like perhaps bounty hunting or delivery jobs. - Taking some of the money from the criminals they beat up.

Ninja Turtles(1984) is a black and white comic book that spoofed Frank Miller's Daredevil and Ronin. The franchise was "red hot" around 1989-1990. Playmates Ninja Turtle toys sold like hot cakes. In the late 1990's, they were a passing trend. They appeared in a 1999 PSA for a subway system. The 1991 Ninja Turtles pop concert will kill brain cells and prevent synaptic activity.
