Yeah, the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1990 was the first film I ever went to see at the cinema on my own. 9 years old, I just randomly went to my mum and dad's store and asked my mum "Can I have some money to go to the cinema?" just during the middle of the day and it was just one of those things that has stayed with me. Just remember it was so different to the cartoon, but still enjoyed it but really felt like this was the start of the 90s cinema for me as it did not feel at all like an 80s movie.

Into the Spider-Verse revolutionized animation and pushed it into a new era. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, Across the Spider-Verse, Beyond the Spider-Verse (2024?), and now TMNT: Mutant Mayhem have allowed studios to take risks that they wouldn't have before and made for more diverse and engaging styles.

Bro I just went with my whole family and they all hated it.😭 When I was listening to why they didn't like it they pretty much said it's because it took sooo much away from the original story. I loved it so much and was so shocked they thought this. I think the difference between me and them is that I expected the change cause I've been looking up to the movie for a while and was aware of the changes. They were expecting the badass ninja turtles and I was expecting the ninja turtles actually like teenagers.

Well, he's missed a ton recently in writing/producing and clearly his quality work is behind him. It was not only that garbage tier show (Santa Inc.) that made me want to give it a skip, but how him and Goldberg screwed the pooch with adapting Preacher. Specifically the 4th season and the series finale. That was clearly a warning sign of how much they were going to remix this franchise to their own style of comedy and storytelling. Not in a good way too. Having seen it, yeah, not terrible but the approach and mindset for this new take was not to my liking.

I recently heard that they tried to make Splinter gay, but changed their minds at the last minute 😒
@neganmessias6940 Жыл бұрын
I hate it. Master Splinter is not a Master, he is a Nanny. April has nothing to do with the OG April. And the Turtles are random, they have no unique character anymore. Raphael is not the angry one, Mike is not the funny one, Donatello is completely without specific role. Only Leonardo will be the chief of team, but that's all. They are not one Chrakter in this movie they have A or The Character of the OG Turtles. New interpretation? Sorry, for me this is to much interpretation for me. If u ask me, they only take the Name and for some Chrakters the look of the Turtles but tell a completely another Story. It sucks.
@theprowler18 Жыл бұрын
I absolutely did not like this new interpretation, as it strayed too far away from the core traits and tenets of the franchise. It says a ton when Michael Bay produced films were closer to the source material than this inconsistent (animation wise) mess of a new take.

@@jonathancurran6851 She was named for one of the creator's girlfriends at the time, not conceptually based on her. Being named after a woman of African-American [disputed] or Latina/Hispanic extraction is very different than being *aesthetically* based on her. Prior to publication, she was conceived of as an Asian woman, but, again , that was prior to publication -and did not advanced beyond the idea/concept stage. She didn't get "turned white for the TV show"; as far as one of the co-creators is concerned, he's on record as saying she was always [intended/imagined to be] white, and he extends this to her surname , "O'Neil," which, being Irish Gaelic in origin, makes that her likely ethnicity. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKmraYBvibZ4jsU

As an old Turtle head fan, they made so many massive changes to the core elements and traits of the franchise, it really feels like Turtles in name only, outside of possibly exploring in better detail the Turtles existential crisis of belonging in society that was a part of their character arcs in the original comic runs of the series. That's the only thing that Rogen and Goldberg nailed in this film.

I really didn't care much for this film. I get that its supposed to be a kids film but ALL the TMNT films are but the first one, especially, was fun for any age who wanted to enjoy a solid film with surprising pathos. This film was overtly crass, juvenile in the wrong ways, and whose cast seemingly picked from someone who just Google Image searched the action figures and picked and weird looking mutant character. 85% of the film's cast is just filler and has nothing really to do. The ending was absolutely atrocious and felt like a betrayal of the themes of TMNT. I have no clue why there were like 30 jokes about milking the ninja turtles? I also didn't find it anywhere near as funny as the critics...its wild to me that TMNT was considered too dark and silly in the first live action film but now in 2023 even baser level humor and worse writing is praised? Weird times. The film really falls into "tell don't show" when it comes to the Turtles personalities and even Splinter. We never really see Raphael deal with anger and loving to fight but we're merely TOLD he does, Mikey never really improvises and lets loose anymore than the other turtles but we're constantly TOLD how he does is, etc. The writing and story don't trust that anyone in the audience, young or old, will understand the story or characterizations going on. I generally think its safe enough for my kids but I wish its quality was much higher than it is. To each their own, obviously :)
