As a 14 yr old, I was manipulated into a situation in which I almost committed a violent crime. I did not have loving parents. I realized at the last minute, though, that a bad decision now would rob me of my freedom for the rest of my life. I stopped. I'm very lucky. I'm 69 now. I often wonder about that day... and how if I'd decided differently, I might also be in prison. It was a close call. 🎉

I really wished you had asked the ONE question that was plaguing me, at the end: Tyler, what could we have done to avoid this. How could we have helped you as a society, or parent, or Mental Health professional? That is what I wanted to know. What did he think now could have helped him. A stunning interview. Probably one of the most honest in terms of the subject. No grandstanding, actual remorse, and honesty.

i am sure he would have said he doesn't know. I will say that I really think that if he was able to voice that he was having that intrusive and constant thought to one thinking listening adult, preferably an experienced and forward thinking mental health professional then he would have been able to experience relief. Remember he said that his parents were about to have him committed - and he wanted it but he didn't - whether his teenage self even then would have voiced it who knows - but if he had then his parents may be alive and he may be an insightful, sane, free and useful citizen.
@Therezumee92Сағат бұрын
He would probably advice to listen WHAT people say. His friends dropped the ball. He told them he has these thoughts. I think it's a pretty big red flag when someone talks bout killing someone else and is obviously serious. Had they warned the parents, they would have gotten him committed sooner and maybe he would be living a normal life after getting treatment in time.

Wasn’t expecting such honesty from Tyler. It appears he is bulimic again which changes his eyes tremendously, making him look sinister. His poor parents endured horrendous physical pain, complete betrayal, then into the hereafter while still young themselves (54 & 47). May they rest in peace. While I see deep genuine mental illness in Tyler, he is exactly where he needs to be. David Scott is an excellent interviewer.

He is absolutely telling the entire truth. He has no idea how or why, but takes full responsibility. He hates himself, unconditionally. On a disturbingly deep level. He is intelligent, aware, and wants to understand. Pivotal moments, in his childhood, where parental guidance was essential, were missed, maybe!? Mental illness was a contributing factor, without a doubt. Excuses nothing, mind you. He understands that his punishment is justified and necessary. What's scary is if you switch a few aspects, anyone, including myself, could be him. This is the stuff, the mind and human thought processes stuff, that I find endlessly fascinating. This man should be studied if he is willing. Enigmatic puzzle sprinkled with contradiction and duality. Jeez. I always thought he was just a punk kid... I need a nap.

Ugh honestly I've been browsing thru the comments to see what others thought and I agree. I think it was a combination of a whole bunch of things including mental health trouble and the cocktail of being a teenager with hormones everywhere and both pharmaceutical&street "medication". It's sad.
@aservantinbabylon12 сағат бұрын
I agree completely. I can promise you that he wouldn't have done this if he wasn't on all those meds. American parents allow this because this has become a very evil nation. Look at the agenda that it supports around the world....such as in Gaza right now. People say it is just the government. It is not. There are millions of Americans that agree with this agenda and dedicate themselves to do such things as serve in the military and enrich themselves on making bombs, etc. Actually loving and raising your children is very low on the priority list for many, many American parents today. This of course is child abuse. And when the child shows the predicted symptoms of being abused by its parents and then acts out, they just put him on drugs to "shut him up". I saw the same thing in this young man. I think he is very honest about himself and I think he was very much a victim of being poisoned. The record has been established for a very, very long time that these drugs cause suicidal and homicidal thoughts, but you don't need the "record" to know that as a parent, giving your child powerful, mind altering drugs is horrible. This may be too far, but in spite of all the glowing things that the brother and even Tyler himself said about the parents, I have a much less positive opinion of them, due to the fact that they were literally frying the brain of their boy instead of parenting him. They may have brought their own demise upon themselves.
@veearce338414 сағат бұрын
He's definitely not a stupid person. I'm watching to see if he says he's remorseful. He did call his parents' saints. When a parent loves their kid and their kid just is indifferent. This is heartbreaking for his family.

Something I have always wondered is did the growth hormone that he was reportedly taking cause an anger or rage that was unexplained. I have read several different articles that Mary Jo had him put on them because he was small for his age. Either way all the other medications he was on definitely played a part in this tragedy. I can't help but feel sorry for him. He clearly takes responsibility for his actions and has to live with the fact that he killed the people in the world who loved him the most.

It's not too often you see a convict having committed such a vile and gruesome crime be _that_ sincerely and genuinely remorseful. More often than not you see the narcissist lurking somewhere deep inside, who pops his true face out at least once during such an interview. And I definitely don't say it lightly, but this man's insight seemed quite authentic and I didn't see any signs of acting or distasteful justifications throughout the interview. Which is exceedingly rare to be fair.

Pills make one think there's something wrong with the person, and the person doesn't know that the intention is not to stigmatize but to heal. Doctors reinforce the parents point of view, that there is something fundamentally wrong with the child, who is gaslit into believing they are a problem, not that they have a problem that can be overcome. Medical professionals have a responsibility to help the patient to understand that they can overcome a depressive state.

He felt his face contort into a maniacal grin? That's really scary the way he described it

He’s a true psychopath. Although the term is rarely used anymore. He is very much a psychopath. He is still in that state even in his adult mind.

I think he truly has remorse! I would like to point out that not all of us have good parents that would come and visit us! My mom was very rarely "motherly" and it was usually when we were around others at, get togethers, that when I would hug her she would reluctantly hug me back because she didn't want others to see her coldness towards me, but I could feel it in her hug!! It hurt me DEEPLY because I was a sensitive child and had my older sister and 2 older brothers (that were my half siblings from my mom's previous marriage) they would emotionally and sometimes physically abuse me, and my mom wouldn't do anything. My mom even told me, when I was 12, that if abortions were legal when she was pregnant with me, I wouldn't be here, which is devastating to a young child! She would tell me I wouldn't amount to anything when I grow up, I shouldn't marry for love because love doesn't last so I should marry for money, which hurt me because that was the one thing that I would dream about when I was younger, was to have a man that loved me and would take me away from my horrible situation. I went through all this and a LOT more in my life but I never thought of hurting her, as sad as it may sound, it was more like I wished my mom would love me, and I tried cleaning more and anything I could so maybe that would make her love me, but of course, it never worked! It's strange how some kids get treated like how I was, go on to hurt their parents, which is more relatable but then you can have kids that have love and support and good things, and they take it for granted, those kinds of kids confuse me, it's almost like they are beyond spoiled where nothing can be enough! It's like my older sister, disrespected my mom, and she received almost anything she wanted and my mom showered her with a lot of love....that makes NO SENSE to me! That's why sometimes I feel like this is a twisted, backwards world and I'm from another planet!!!

I am not saying there is no responsibility to be borne by this young man and others like him who have committed horrendous crimes, but does anyone else see a pattern here? Young children and adolescents being given multiple, powerful , brain altering psychotropic medications - who commit spontaneous, inexplicable acts of extreme violence toward their parents/family members who have not been abusive. There seems to be a trend here - those drugs strike me as dangerous and life destroying. I wouldn't take them if my life depended on it.

I wonder if he has ever been diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder? Often children with this disorder can have obsessive thoughts of harming others.

His mother was unlucky giving birth to someone like him. He knew what he was doing and just wanted to do it. If it hadn’t been his parents he would have chosen someone else at some point for no good reason. There are no excuses. He had a choice. He is profoundly immoral. We battle to understand individuals like this but how could we ever understand this because in general people do not engage in the same reasoning and behaviour as him … people like him have a different moral code. He acted like a spoilt brat and took it too far. This is not a reflection of his parents. His parents tried their best but were up against the impossible. I am glad he didn’t make up excuses for his behaviour at least. I am so sorry for all those with close connections to this family. I cannot imagine how difficult it has been for you all. I hope you manage to salvage some happiness in your lives going forward despite this tragedy ❤️ x

Threatening a child that already feel suffocated and trapped in their own mind and is using any substance or means to escape the last thing they need is fear or suffocation. GAH this is such a recurring event to happen in families

It’s bizarre how many ppl have mental illness and thyroid disorders. I worked in the mental health field for over 10 yrs with many patients and I administered meds and it was surprising how many took synthroid/levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. I have anxiety/depression/eating disorders/PTSD and I have hypothyroidism. My mom has schizophrenia-affective disorder and hypothyroidism. It’s strange.

One of the side effects of antipsychotics is that they mess with your thyroid. Doctors often suggest iodine drops to people on them.

At least he's forthcoming and not trying to deflect responsibility, and I used to take Zoloft and other so called antidepressants, and I agree with him that my experience with taking these drugs did not help me at all. They made me very foggy in the head, couldn't think straight or quickly and I lost balance and ran into corners of walls and lost my footing going down stairs. maybe they work for other people but they did nothing to help me. Sad what happened here to his parents and also sad that he couldn't keep a grip on his mental health.

What an incredibly sad story. Have heard many parents of troubled teenagers tell horror stories about how their children's tempers can flash in a second. Interesting how openly he tells how little the murders meant in the moment when he looked in the mirror and laughed. As the psychologist in the feature said. Most young people can get better but a few are incorrigible. Tyler remains where he is for the rest of his life.

It looks to me like NOTHING could have stopped him from doing this. I wonder if his parents knew that too; and just waited, hoping they were wrong. Such inexplicable actions. Horrifying. And yeah, they can change but he should have a LONG sentence for WHAT HE’S DONE. Let him change-behind iron bars, please and thank you. He’s right, he doesn’t deserve freedom ever again. 🤷🏼♀️ And he can’t say it was just ‘one’ thought. There’s proof that he talked about it before. He says most kids talk like that. That’s not true. How often are we told that the words swirling around in our head PAINT our life. His words were violent and they painted everything red. Ugh

When are they gonna make the connection between these ssri drugs and stuff like this? Is also not a good idea for kids 9, 10, 12, 15 getting things like Adderall.

👀 I’m not excited, per se, to see Tyler Hadley, but it’s always perplexed me that *countless* YT videos have been made about Chandler Halderson, Grant Amato, Joel Guy Jr and their sh!t bag acts against their parents, but rarely do I hear much about ol’ Döuchefacé Hadley here. And I think he’s the youngest of this deeply disturbed trash crew. Anyhoo. Loving this new series… well done CourtTV. 👏
