Jodeci consists of two sets of brothers from North Carolina: JoJo and K-Ci Hailey (Fantasia is their cousin) and Devante Swing and Mr. Dalvin DeGrate. The group name combines all of their names- Jo(JoJo)de(Devante and Dalvin)ci(K-Ci). The Hailey brothers interchange lead vocals. Devante is a multi instrumentalist who did most of the group's song writing and production as well as directed or co-directed most of their music videos, and Mr. Dalvin took care of the group's wardrobe, imagining, choreography and sometimes played drums onstage in their live show. Devante also worked with and developed a group of artists in Virginia (the state in which he and Dalvin were born before moving to North Carolina) in what would come to be known as "da bassment crew." These artists include Timberland, Magoo, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine, Playa, Static Major, Stevie J, Sista, Tweet and a few others. Aaliyah also became a part of this collective of artists when she broke away from R Kelly.
