To be entirely honest, I think this incident is a perfect example of why America needs to focus on the mentally sick and mentally unstable. This isn't about guns and this isn't about any type of rights in owning lethal weapons or not; this is demonstrating how we ignore the people who have things wrong with them and need help. We need to push for better systems concerning mental hospitals, and psychiatric offices.

Being from Connecticut, this was a huge shock to all. I live just half an hour away from Newton. I was just in kindergarten when this occurred so I was wondering why everyone had become even more overprotective of me. Rest In Peace to all the victims and families who were effected by this tragedy.

Okay, I'm just gonna go off on a tangent. I know it's been a few years since this happened, but I'm still slightly scared to go to school. My town is only like, two or the towns away from Newtown, and I was one of the first few kids in my school to know about the shooting. My mom grew up in Newtown, and she was surprised that someone could do that in such a small town. Every few weeks we have drills to see what we would do if something like this happened again, and every time I'm terrified that it's real. Just imagine coming home from school one day, and your mother hugging you while she's crying. That's terrifying, especially since you knew what happened... Thanks for taking the time to read this. And yeah. Bye.

It’s so heartbreaking how these kids would now be in their teen years if they were still alive. My niece was 6-7 when this happened and she’s now 14, when I heard about this shooting I hugged her so tight because she was their age 😭. These kids didn’t even get a chance to grow up and live their lives 😭

Personally I agree with take an aptitude test! I don't feel like that's a horrible price to pay for having a bit more saftey! But then we run into how easy I can hop on line and look up private gun owners that are willing to sell me there gun without a background check! But taking my 2nd Ammendment righr is definitely a NO NO! And like one of them said it's not the gun that kills it's the Person Behind The Gun!

My best friend used to go to that school. She moved to south Dakota soon after, and now I feel blessed to know that she is with me, but I can't help but cry and cry for those who aren't as lucky. They didn't deserve any of this, and they will be loved forever.

Madison talking about how they would turn off the lights and hide brought me back to those days in elementary school when we would hide during drills. But in the high school I graduated from, we actually were taught how to barricade the classroom, fight back against an attacker, defend ourselves and each other, and escape. Fighting back is usually a last resort, that’s only if they enter your classroom or they’re in the hallway where you are and you or anyone who is physically close to you is being targeted. We were taught to throw books or laptops or other objects at the attacker if they came into the room, and we even practiced putting cabinets up against the door and turning the tables sideways as shields during a drill. But sadly you can’t reach little kids how to fight back like that, that’s only in high school and maybe in some middle schools. And that was 3-4 years ago when I was a junior and senior, so they might be doing that in more schools now.

It gets at me. What if- what if it was my sister? My sweet, 7 year old sister? Sure, we don't get along at times, but for her to get shot? Or, or if it was my friend? Another family member? Oh god...

This makes me really sad I'm literally getting watery eyes just by writing this but on Halloween 2014 a student from my middle school and her two friends got ran over in a hit and run and...died... I didn't really know her but just that morning I had talked to her for the first time. A couple days later at her funeral a lot of media was there and I believe that was wrong. One reporter asked me if I may be interviewed I denied and told them to leave. How dare they ask people if they may interview...

Alix was always an edgelord. She had just said her parents didn’t love her as much as they should’ve, and… yeah, it kind of shows in that statement.

It's unimaginable as an Indian to see US actually have school shootings. Like a real thing. I mean, what did those kids ever even do to you?

R.I.P to the lives that were lost on this very sad day. I couldn't imagine what the parents are going through. People these days are just crazy. We need laws to prevent stuff like this happing again. I don't wanna see more lives being taken.

the fact things like this still happen eight years later, is genuinly sickening. why do people still want guns so badly then act like they care about things like this?

No, making guns illegal could cause a lot more crime. It would open another item to black market, and this would cause a higher crime rate. Also, those who live in dangerous areas would be less protected if a criminal were to steal or buy a gun illegally and then rob his/her house. It would cause more shootings since the mentally ill and criminals will always find a way to get a gun and do the horrible stuff that happens. (School shootings, etc.) Making guns illegal will just cause more troubles in America.

Hello guys, I’m from 10 years in the future! It’s still insane how things like this keep happening and we still haven’t learned anything! I have been alive for almost 10 of these events, and now there was one in Texas! We need to do something in order to control gun violence!

I was so sorry for those little kids that were shot and the ones that weren't because they were traumatized for the rest of there little lives. And my mom his it from me and I found out at school I was so scared, sad, and mad at my mom for not telling me I cried the entire day.

This here is the truth. Evil will always exist! No matter what you do, you can't destroy evil with laws. First off, people will find a way to smuggle guns through the black market. Second, banning guns will reduce mass shootings, but other violence will spike outrageously to the point were it won't make any difference whatsoever.
