Anenemies are my go to pierogi farm. I almost always build my base around a pond and have them kill frogs. Then you use the kelp and place them on the nearest spot where the ocean is and you will get endless meat for eggs and veggies. Even better if you get lucky and have two ponds next to each other. Also a fantastic way of getting sanity by drying the kelp. This basic setup that all you have to do is pick up the meat and pick the kelp takes such little effort it is amazing.

i have a bit of a stupid question, are both caves and surface loaded at once? for example if i set up a trap for ancient guardian and then go back to the surface, will it continue to work?

You can just plant them and leave them, yes. If and when you have caves enabled you're technically running two servers at once.
