I also add a cotton roll to clean my hand scalers during use. In the UK most practices use a alow handpiece with either polishing cup or brush depending on what the clinician prefers or the level of staining and some prophy paste. I just add a smear of paste to save plastic waste. We don't have special prophy cups like yours but they look cool 👌🏾

Did you buy your own prophy handles? Or do you use the one that the office provides? Also are you required to purchase one in dental hygiene school?

Great question! I am using the ones that my office provides. I know of some hygienists who bring their own because they prefer theirs. However - everyone is different. And yes - I did have to purchase my own in DH school. Hope that helps!

Do you usually hand screw on your piezo tip? We have wrenches to make sure we aren't over tightening them. They click the tips in place. I recently temped (like literally right before we shut done due to covid) and they just have one that they wipe down between patients. Usually all our tips at my regular office have wrenches that those tips live in. :)
@TeethTalk4 жыл бұрын
Ahhhhhh! I've heard of people wiping down the wrenches ...that is so not good. At my one office we have wrenches that they live in, as well. But at this office - we have wrenches that are bagged separately (they are different looking than the others) and I have them in my little cubby behind me! But yes! They are also sterilized prior to each use. Sending positive vibes your way!

Are you still working? In Australia no hygiene appointments are going ahead due to COVID-19. The plastic probe is for screening, not doing full perio charts.
@TeethTalk4 жыл бұрын
We are currently closed for all elective procedures so I am not working. Dentists are currently seeing emergency patients only. And I totally agree about the plastic probe being used for screenings! I know of many dental providers who prefer it for full perio charts - but not me! Sending positive energy your way!

Railgunner Outlaw Hey I got to tell you that I actually have all these sounds I downloaded from the iTunes Store. All my alarms and bed time alarms are dental drills and polishers. I love the sounds. Makes my alarms interesting. Also when people are listening before bed their nature sounds and mello music for bed, I am listening to drills and songs about the dentist that i downloaded. I am a dental freak. I guess my craze is a lot of people’s fears. Love all that stuff before bed. I even got a song from the ITunes Store and it is call dentist love from the singing dentists. I also have “you got to swirl well.” And floss me.

I’m confused why people doesn’t call the saliva injector a suction anymore
@ladybuglover954 жыл бұрын
God_Knight aka_Ben. There is high speed suction and the saliva ejector which is a lower speed suction. I think it helps to differentiate especially since more and more hygienists are (hopefully) learning the importance of using an hve to help control aerosols better
