@@donquesewilliamswilliams3497 Yes, demonstrably, zero historical documents or books should ever be banned. Punish criminals for criminal acts, don't punish artists for expressing themselves, right or wrong. Comparing a book from nearly a century ago is NOT the same as say inciting an insurrection while you are the acting president, on live television and through social media. There are levels of threat/danger. There is nuance. Clearly your straw man about pedophilia would fall into the category of clear and present danger. Someone disturbed enough to engage in violence will do so REGARDLESS of provocation. “Last Caress” presents a unique sound that combines aggressive punk rock elements with horror-inspired lyrics. The song revolves around dark themes of violence, murder, and even necrophilia, making it highly controversial and eliciting varied interpretations. The thing to know about punk rock is that it usually has a message beyond some pop bubble gum bullshit that you get with other music genres. Usually the message is some kind of social commentary, the entire movement stemmed from dissatisfaction with society and a desire to evolve it from its tired traditions and worn out attitudes. One could critique punk for being a little bit myopic based upon the fact that it was a little to white and middle class but it had the best of intentions. Of course, that's not to say there weren't playful, no serious sides of punk rock and also you can't ignore the nazis but for the most part, I think society benefited from its existence.
@ashlealabine69373 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you said this. It needed to be said. This song could definitely paint a negative picture of the punk rock scene as a whole, and that just should not be case. There's a whole rainbow of punk. So many sub-genres too.

@@ashlealabine6937 Totally agree. Many people got their impressions of punk rock from either network TV clowning it or just seeing it from outside of the movement and not realizing that it was probably even more serious, deep and political than the hippy movement of the 60s. I guess we brought some of that on ourselves but the public is so quick to judge based on outward appearances, which is one of the many issues punk rock was addressing, along with many other ills of society.

Really only works as hard core punk. Glaringly offensive and cannot hide the lyrics when played. The all ages shows at the time were all ages and those kids knew exactly what they were going to the show for and I don't think their parents had a clue since they were too busy filling their lives with stuff and lost contact with the children who were on their own. The Misfits filled that void and built a strong following that still exists today .

He says something super fucked up and then "oh sweet death give me one last caress" which I think is funny. You gotta keep in mind Glenn Danzig was a teenager back then. Pretty sure lol it's dark humor. Provoking people into a fight is kinda wild let alone talking about death's sweet caress after provoking them. Its wild shit hahahahaha Glenn wasnt someone you wanted to fuck with also ...he is low-key a pretty rough guy. He actually punched the drummer thata for not pitching in at a McDonald's. That's the main reason the band broke up. I guess Jerry their bass said some shit also, but that was awhile a go they were teens or very young adults. Like college kids kinda back then so. Grant it we as young kids were shocked too but chalked it up to the horror theme based music. They are a 50's sounding punk rock horror music group. Have you seen rape in movies ? Did you lose you shit ? No. Why ? Exactly we're adults and this is some goofy song. You have to remember the time it was written and the social norms of those days. This song. It holds a weird place in my heart. I have a super dark sense of humor so when I had to get an abortion I called up my bf afterwards and sang, I got something to say, I killed your baby today. I’d just gotten into these old misfits songs and couldn’t think what else to say. It was funny in a fcked up way bc my bf who was used to me was done. A full 30 secs of silence, then, Jesus fcking Christ Zoey.
@marksaint65033 жыл бұрын
I don’t mean this to be political so I hope this doesn’t offend anyone- but I always took the song to be about abortion- first he talks to his lover, the mother, then the second verse is to the unborn child. “I killed your baby today”- the baby was aborted, and “it doesn’t matter much to me as long as it’s dead”; he doesn’t care he just wants to live his life without the burdens of a child. Then to the child “I r*ped your mother today” he uses rape to show how little he cares, is it a literal rape- who knows, but it might as well be to him because he only cares “as long as she spread[s]” her legs. It’s a song about nihilism, and maybe I read the abortion stuff into it. But that’s always been my take.
