The "known" - Like, for example, the number of times athletes will take the floor during a competition (Which can be different from the number of scored events #there_is_leeway) or maybe the cuts. So, you know what you're signing for... ... Then, still an example, the CF Games could be a 12 times on the floor thing (With a cut after 6 times on the floor and a cut after 9), a major competition could be 9 times (With a cut after 6), a minor competition could be 6 times (The semi-finals would then be a minor competition, something an amateur can aspire to - With no cut), a local/one day competition could be 3 times (With no cut). I mean, in most Sports, competitions are structured a certain and known way. So, the athletes and the audience/the viewers/(The sponsors) know what to expect.
