Very informative video! I did not know how deeply British companies were involved in building Japan’s navy. It looks as if the Washington and London Naval Treaties did not succeed in reducing rivalry between the three great naval powers. Japan must have been making great economic sacrifices in the period 1910 to 1930 to maintain such a powerful fleet.
Thanks for the video. It's nice to get a review of this important class of capital ships. Most of the histories I've read say the North Carolina and South Dakota classes were designed with the high speed of the Kongos in mind. The problem with these ships is they were slower than the carriers. The Iowa class was intended to provide battleship support for the carrier fleet. However, the US Navy examined the firepower of the Kongo class and other Japanese battleships when it came time to define the armor scheme. That's my understanding of the US Navy's reasoning. It's good to hear other points of view.
