GREAT VID!! I love how much time you spent in the hand tools part of their booth. So many other vids simply focused on the cabinets. I wish HF had put their digital torque meters on those bolts at the end so we could see how much they were generating. But overall, man I'm excited to see what HF is doing these days. It makes really nice tools affordable for the weekend warrior guys like me and even for the pros.

Ive been using a 73" Icon rolling box professionally for a little over 4 months now and I've really been impressed. Its not quite as good as the really high end Snap On boxes, but I'll stand that it's at least better than their classic series, especially with its modern features. I paid $2700 and it was delivered to my shop in only two weeks. It's allowed me to put higher end tools in the box itself, and that's what I think matters. Most of the Icon hand tools I've purchased have been solid as well.

So I actually bought the Hercules brand tools to outfit my lube truck. Made a mistake one day left my Milwaukee on a track of an escavator and well rolled over it. Used the Hercules to get me through the day, liked the way it worked, bought the Gen 1 ultra torque half inch and have used it for 1.5 years and it's still just as strong. I too work in heavy equipment and had the same problem you had with battery powered tools, and thought about going back to strictly air, but I have to say day in and day out my 1/2 drive ultra torque gets used and abused, and has not let me down yet. Matter of fact the only Hercules tool that has failed, was a 3/8 ratchet that my lube tech guy decided to use it as a breaker bar to loosen the bolts for the cab hold down in a skid steer.

We have halfords 'advanced' over here in the UK as the budget/apprentice brand, not quite as much of a selection but they do the foam trays and give out 'trade cards' which give 20% off tools and car parts in their stores among other discounts. I work on Medium/Slow Speed Marine Diesel Engines and really struggle for cheap 32mm+ spanners let alone ratcheting ones.

I have the Hercules grease gun, high tourqe impact, grinder, drill and hex drive impact. I've had em for about 6 months, and there are nasty. I've dropped the grind and impact from the top of a hopper bottom trailer, and they didn't even get a scratch. My only complaint is that the 2.5 Amp hr batteries are too weak for the drills and hex drive impact and die too quick, but 5 Amp hr works great. Grinder has The same power as a dewalt 60v or plug in, and the high tourqe (not the ultra tourqe) has more power than an Ingersoll Rand 1/2 air impact, and almost as much as a 3/4 drive. They've held up to near daily abuse on the farm, and impressed the hell out of me so far

There are questions asked I've had tools not accepted as a return multiple times at harbor freight. Icon Toolbox purchased second hand from the local ads. They would not honor a manufactured defect with the lifetime warranty. Because the icon toolbox was not attached to my phone number it wasn't warranty according to several managers. I've had tools not warrantied out individually for both icon and Pittsburgh pro because the store did not want to open a package. Again that's just my experience most other transactions goo along splendid

If they don't, it's a bad location with bad employees. That is also something that can occur on the tool trucks. If you read comments on comparison videos you can find endless comments saying how the tool truck reps near them are crappy and won't warranty their broken items, wont even give them a free hat when they buy a 13k box. "Lifetime warranty, no questions asked." WITH, original proof of purchase. They only warranty the tool to the original purchaser. So they don't have a huge degree of faith in their tool. Snap-on and the like, warranty the tool itself regardless of where & by whom it was purchased. At least in my experience.

From my experience if you are an active customer with purchase history, they are not going to search through it for a simple hand tool replacement, and just make it happen to keep a customer happy. Now if you bring a box of rusty stuff you found at a flea market and want to warrant it out for all new stuff... I hope they don't do that.... that's the type of thing to put them out of biz as they sell hundreds of millions of tools every year.

I have had to get a few things replaced through the warranty program at harbor freight. They just broke open a new package and replaced the sockets. Never needed the receipt.

im selling my snap on 3 bank for this same green setup pictured i payed a little over 8k with a discount for the whole thing. this would have been 60k with snap on and the quality is the just as good. ill buy icon over snap on any chance i can. ive also got the new icon t8 scanner and in some ways its better than the snap on d10 we have in the shop.

The fact that they have the quality, and don’t care to have prices on everything at a world trade show. That’s impressive.

Are ICON tools and boxes as good as Snap-On? No. But are they 90% as good for 30% of the price? Yep. I was a tech, service writer/manager and parts manager at a handful of dealerships, so I have used many tools from Craftsman to Mac, Matco, Cornwell and Snap-on. I know many, many front line techs who got sucked into the tool truck game early on and have had a weekly payment to the tool truck for 20 years, it's just dumb. One of the first shops I worked at, the heavy tech (engine/trans swaps and rebuilds) had two old craftsman toolboxes that he had welded together, full of craftsman and random tools. He turned more hours than any of the other flat time techs in the shop, and wasn't dreading the tool trucks showing up every week looking for their payments.

Harbor freight . Cheap well made tools. I was raised on them. Us general. I say this they need to drop icon and concentrate totally on US General. Stores need to have inventory. I went to buy tool box and they don't have nothing.

@@scrapmanindustries excellent idea. I have my resume together and have sent it out via Indeed and Talent this morning. Thank you for the push. I needed that! What is the standard for pursuing a career in this industry? Calling, visiting, or just submitting an application online to different companies?
@scrapmanindustries
@scrapmanindustries 7 ай бұрын
@@SuperBigt64 I’m not really sure about that. When I was younger I would submit resumes all over fill out what ever applications and get no where. Now I think it’s a combination of getting older and more experienced combined with “labor shortages” but people are asking me if I want to work for them. If you already got ten years in somewhere I imagine your not straight out of high school. I have a problem with high school kids trying to work for me and my welding company, I tell em cool ya know come on over on a certain day anytime and show me what you can do, play around with the machines I got which are way different than what you find at a vo-tech, and they never show. So just show up if asked to do so. I do know if your having trouble in the private sector it is pretty easy to get into state and municipal jobs turning wrenches if you live up north. Pretty much any state that runs snow plows are always looking for mechanics. You might have to drive a county or two over for a few years before you can get the county you live in sometimes. All depends on when people quit, retire, and die. In pa they had a bunch of mechanics at penn dot in my county. Here in Ohio odot only has two for the whole county but we live in a small county and those two guys got over 20 years in. So this county ain’t hired a mechanic in awhile. The neighboring counties have been short mechanics though.

So icon tools are a culmination of best brands copied. 80% performance and durability at what, maybe 30% of the price. Nice market research and well use of a 3d scanner. I bet they got a huge database of point clouds from their 3d scanners.
