These are the most noted differences: -Arcade Intro is simple with just Kazuya while Console one is longer and presents the main fighters. -In Arcade the characters have an animation after being chose and the ? icon has animation too, while in Console all is static. -Music is with different sounds in the Console version. -The camera position in the Arcade is static while in Console takes a swift move around. -The Replay in the Arcade shows the precise last 2 seconds of the victort, while the Console one takes 5 seconds. -The most notable one is after defeating Heihachi, in Arcade replays all the victory replays, but in Console plays an unique ending scene for the character, something that would become iconic in Tekken. Great video! 💎 Edit: I forgot to add that the Console version while changes the game let the player plays Galaga, something nostalgic. :)

Actually namco designed the system 11 arcade board to specifically be based on the ps1's hardware with Sony chips so it's really not that much of a port, compared to say Street fighter 2 on the super Nintendo or Virtua fighter 2 on the Sega Saturn

The Namco System 11 is an arcade system board released by Namco in 1994. The actual hardware is based on Sony's PlayStation home console, and thus many games were ported to that console. The major difference between the two is that the System 11 used surface-mounted ROM chips to store the game data, whereas the PlayStation used CD-ROM. This meant that all System 11 games were unique to the particular system board, and could not be swapped out with another game.

First wave third party PSX games, like Tekken here, did a lot of damage to the Saturn's credibility. These games were polished and impressive. The PlayStation wasn't all that beefy under the hood, compared to the Saturn, but that simpler architecture actually aided software development.

One big, difference. Tekken Arcade is around 20 MB. Tekken PS1 is a 605 MB CD-ROM. This due to the video files and the CD-Audio on the PS1. I would guess the actual game is about the same size though, with the arcade game running directly from ROM chips on the mainboard. You'll notice both these games look very similar if not identical, there is a very good reason for this, the Namco System 11 hardware is basically PS1 hardware.

The Namco System 11 was basically a PS1 with 2Mb of VRAM instead of one and used ROM chips instead of CD-ROMs. The game looks virtually the same with some slight load times on PS1

Sony got dam lucky Namco was looking for cheaper alternative to System 22 and wanted to to know the PS1 spec to release a game on it and ended up getting a prototype early and decided to use the PS1 + Rom storage for their Tekken games so Sony got a really decent team to test their hardware + porting Tekken was real close.

It helps a lot that the arcade Tekken is running on a Playstation, albeit with extra RAM. There are some very minor differences in ground textures, as well as some other bits here and there, but you'd have to be obsessive to even notice. The picture-in-picture in the baseball stadium is a nice touch and appears in other early Playstation games.

Well, the CD case says these are 17 DEADLIEST warriors. You see, back then in the 90's there were many fighting games, which came and went. Would Tekken be the next best thing ever and see its sequel? Nobody knew, it was just a next arcade game about two guys punching each other. It's quite probably something we call Early Installment Weirdness, where the first game is really different in terms of style compared to later ones. Maybe developers really wanted the characters to seem like dangerous, reckless murderers, but then they realised it was a bit too much and instead tried something entirely different

Despite the the load times (which aren't even really an issue here), I still think the PSX version is an excellent port considering it was released in 1995. I also love that the PS1 versions of the Tekken games offer an alternate soundtrack with the option to use the original arcade soundtrack as well. I also enjoyed the added opening cutscene in the beginning. One difference I did notice is in the original arcade version there is character animation and the name is announced when selected, where on the PSX version it just flashes and makes a sound. I used to play this religiously in the late 90s. I wish I still had my copy, but it was somehow lost during a move years back. Oh and you gotta love that Galaga mini game during the load screen!

Fui perceber esses dias que na versão Arcade não tem como escolher os sub-chefes. Na época eu ficava iludido para zerar esse jogo no fliperama perto de casa para habilitar os sub-chefes como eu fazia no Playstation. Você sabe me dizer como era habilitados os sub-chefes do Tekken 2 versão Arcade? Lembro quando chegou esse jogo pela primeira vez na minha cidade, poderia escolher só 10 personagens e alguns anos mais tarde teve a versão com todos os 23 personagens habilitados. O Tekken 3 versão Arcade lembro como se fosse hoje como era habilitados os personagens secretos. Primeiramente aparecia uma silhueta do personagem na apresentação do jogo dizendo: "Who is this character?" depois de alguns dias essa silhueta era revelada a foto do personagem e o nome. Não sei dizer como era feito isso, uns dizem que era semanas de jogatinas, um falou que era a cada 500 fichas que habilitava um personagem secreto. Só sei que tem mais de 20 anos que não vejo isso.

In the console you can change the music, play galaga before you start the game, and it has character endings. On a side note, Heihachi in the arcade version has Kazuya's throws, whereas the console version Heihachi has the lightning headlock and the flying powerbomb.

See what made Namco such an amazing arcade company is that even though the PS1 Home Ports of Tekken 1 and 3 were not 💯% arcade perfect, they still made them close enough to where you wouldn’t even notice the differences unless you had both arcade and PS1 running side by side in your room, unlike sega with there Virtua fighter series where VF 1 on the Saturn was a complete mess and VF2 wasn’t arcade perfect and you could deff see the differences between the sega model 2 arcade version and the sega Saturn version, but Tekken 2 was the only one That was arcade perfect outa 1 and 3 on the PS1

Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, Tekken 3, Soul Calibur 2. Those are my 3 favorite 3D fighters, even to this day. All masterpieces. But Soul Calibur 2 is my #1 favorite for overall. I can't find any fault with that one.

This is what made the PlayStation so great in the beginning, arcade ports that were practically arcade perfect, while the Saturn struggled with its arcade ports to match the quality expirienced in arcades Sony was bringing there's home without a hitch. Ridge Racer although running at 30 fps on the PlayStation vs the arcade's 60 fps still impressed and looked amazing unlike Daytona on Saturn, Virtua Fighter (albeit to some a better playing game than Tekken) on Saturn was a disappointment, while Tekken was a reason to buy a PlayStation, this continued with Tekken 2, and while Virtua Fighter 2 was very close to the arcade version on Saturn, it wasn't as arcade perfect as Tekken 2 was, Sony and Namco even took things further by actually porting over Super System 22 games on Playstation.

Sometimes a relative of someone who moved away don`t know the worth of the games, put a whole bunch of the old games on Ebay in a bundle, and sell them at a cheap price. I've gotten some good deals like that.

i think the most interesting thing here is comparing it to tekken 2.... is this game has 2, sometimes 3 layer backgrounds ( like the backgrounds in satrun vf2 and doa that fanboys like to call 3d) while the down graded to a single layer in t2, i guess to allow for the b better models and light sourcing. i think they look quite good for the most part but of course the charatcter models are awful.

The floor textures are little sharper in the arcade version. But it was a good port for PSX. In this case NAMCO wins.

pretty close except for things that would be prohibitively expensive(at the time) to store on rom - fmv's and arranged soundtrack. main differences seems to be texture quality of the ground/floor. i wish tekken 2 was able to keep these multi layer backgrounds. i guess the use of higher quality fighter models took up too many resources to allow it.

Played it in the arcade, wasn’t graphically impressive at the time as the hardware was based on the PSX and as such a port was always forthcoming and is near identical, i guess you can blame Namco for the downfall of arcades but cost cutting on new release hardware!

realmente pra este jogo fez miséria mesmo, agora por que será que não fez o mesmo no X-men vs Street Fighter?? que era teoricamente mais simples, pois era feito com sprites e não com os novos e difíceis de programar polígonos.....

Arcade much Sharper picture does better job scaleing unless you play ps1 version on modded ps2 with coustme settings but no difference in garphics

For me tekken 1 ps1 load times is 8½ seconds but the arcade version is 7 seconds

Tekken 1 has a lot less content than the later tekken games, and it didn’t even have one player vs mode on the PS1.

bela conversão a do Playstation !! mais em geral os arcades eram na maioria das vezes SUPERIOR aas versões caseiras de jogos. pois se o consumidor tivesse algo igual ou melhor do que o que tinha no fliperama do bar do zé , então este não investiria nos flipers e o segmento acabaria rapidamente, assim como acabou acontecendo nos dias de hoje.

A versão do arcade é ridiculamente melhor,eu tive que pausar o vídeo pra ver o chão da versão arcade 1 pouquinho menos quadriculado. E a diferença mesmo está no menu de escolher personagens,que na versão Playstation os lutadores estão estáticos. De resto podemos dizer que estão idênticos as versões.

Some things missing on PS1 but also some addictions if I remember well. However, though the game itself looks very similar, all texts look less pixelated on PS1 even though they probably both run at the same resolution. Looks like some kind of interpolation. So, if I had to play one, probably the PS1 version.

The PSX port is very very good compared to the Arcade. However, the arcade obviously has slightly better graphical quality. The funny thing is, the two systems... the NAMCO System 11 and the PSX had nearly identical hardware inside. The System 11 and the PSX both used the same CPU, a MIPS-R3000A @ 33 MHz. However, the System 1 had the same amount of total system memory at 2MB respectively, but the PSX had 1/2 the amount of video memory. This was likely what cost the PSX some loss in overall quality. Also, the video chip on the system 11 could display 360,000 polygons/s w/ texture mapping, lighting, and shading, whereas the PSX was like 90,000 polygons/s with the same features enabled as the prior. But they are amazingly closely related hardware wise. This was one of my favorite games at the time and this is a quality port right here. Kudos to the programmers here.

The arcade version has higher resolution textures on the ground, not pixel perfect after all... even for a so called "psx hardware" board, the arcade is slightly better
