Go for the whole series if you can access it. The core mechanics are familiar throughout but it's interesting to know how much has been improved since the first game, and all of them are so much fun still to this day (Tekken 3 is still played competitively in some parts of the world!).

Fun fact about the narrator. The voice actor for him is Josh Keller, and he’s not just the voice of the boring sounding journalist, he’s actually the game announcer for Tekken 7. If you know the iconic “GET READY FOR THE NEXT BATTLE” before each vs mode fight, that’s him. Apparently someone directed him to make the journalist very monotone, and if he had an opportunity to make it better, he would.

You may have already known this, but the voice actor for Heihachi passed away about a decade back, and the guy they got to replace him actually passed away. Not long after this game came out. So I think this game was done to send out the Heihachi character in style

I haven't played a Tekken game since Tekken 3 on PS One, but is it normal for the story mode's to be 30~ minutes? I could see that being intentional based off of them focusing more on the regular fighting part of the game. I don't think every studio has time to make a multi-hour story mode like Netherrealm haha

Nah tekken 7 was a blessing for us and the devs. It's the most successful tekken game of all time. The copies its sold paved the way to the beautiful tekken 8.
