If you select English (World) as a region during setup, it will actually save you a couple of clicks, it won't install any bloatware.

How will this affect the upcoming ability to uninstall Cortana, Edge and Bing etc with the EU member countries settings? You know the recent new EU regulations that forces Microsoft to let the user make their own choices and not force all Microsoft stuff on everyone. "UK", "English" and/or "world" is not a specific EU member country, especially not after Brexit where UK left EU, so maybe you need to chose a country within EU to actually be able to do that? I think Microsoft came out and specifically said that it will be determined by your regional setting on set-up and that they will chose to "trust" what region setting people make to then let that trigger/activate/access the ability to remove those features (edge, bing etc). I think it will become available in April 2024, but I'm not sure if it will only be accessible with new Windows 11 installs, or maybe throgh some update which will even allow it on old installs as long as they did chose a country within EU when it was initially installed/set-up.

That wasn't even a choice in a Win10 made with their creation tool. I did choose UK and it seems to have worked.

Probably mentioned already in the comments, but you can also re-use a OEM key on a new machine by looking for an option in the activation screen along the lines of "i changed my hardware" and it will accept it.

A great Start Menu replacement is Start11. It gives you the option to make it a Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11 style and customize the look

I’ve found that Classic/Open Shell is a lot more faithful to Windows 7 than Start11. I’ve used Classic Shell since the day I got Windows 10 and I’ve had zero issues.

Another paid option that it's better in my opinion is StartAllBack (Formerly StartIsBack++) Even if the name suggests it only changes the start menu, it also applies various patches to Explorer, letting you choose the W10 or the W7 layout, BUT they're updated to fit more in W11, aka updated icons, proper Mica and tab support (without being huge as fuck). Also patches the taskbar making it more like the older one and adding extra options on top of it. As well as patching some stuff in all the OS, like using classic context menus by default, fixing color inconsistencies and so on.

@@njbrx honest question, why would rounded corners vs square corners make you angry? 😊 I run win 11 in VMware, and I create the machine as a template VM that I basically make a copy of the template each day making my windows super clutter free and efficient. It's like working in a freshly installed windows machine every day. This essentially creates me a scenario where it is kind of impossible to have a machine that slows down over time. All my work I save online so no real issue deleting it ever day, but I do keep one backup just in case.

I agree with you and 99% of the complaints on windows 11 changing stuff doesn't bother me because I use windows hotkeys. I didn't used them before buying my 32inch ultrawide 2k monitor but learning them made me so much more faster. Start menu moving around? You have a god damn windows key on every keyboard that opens the start menu. The new right clic menu is less cluttered, the most used options are at the top, it's better organized and it tells you the hotkeys. People complains about the system trays and the sound settings... IDK about you but I use the volume mixer only when I set up the volume for an app. Once done I only need the general volume or the volume bar/option in the app (eg: youtube or games) which is faster to use than opening the volume mixer. I have a much easier time navigating the setting menu and I'm much faster at finding the specific option I want vs control pannel but not every options are available there. Is Win 11 perfect? No! Did it removed some options? Yes. It's still much better than windows 10 or 8 as far as modern windows goes.

one thing you didn't have to do was disable web results in the start menu. i always turn that off with a registry edit. microsoft caught lying once again claimed that disabling this was removed in windows 11, but it works with the exact same registry edit for windows 10. the entire feature was not to make web searching more convenient (if you're going to search the internet, your first inkling would be to open a browser; and every browser lets you search directly from the address bar anyway) this was totally to drive artificial and accidental traffic to bing to make their numbers look good. totally evil. windows is rapidly becoming malware.

Start11 by Stardock is also a decent choice to modify the taskbar and start menu, in my experience - not freeware, but there's a 30 day demo and the full thing costs like 7 bucks. Might be worth a try if the free options get a little buggy or crash prone like they did with me.

Before I had used my whokeys license. So I am just asking whokeys for a refund since I prefer free home edition vs paid PRO. Can anyone explain how did I end up with a free windows 11 home? Or am I missing something and it'll deactivate in a few days? Two things that could explain it are 1) this motherboard has already had a windows before, so maybe it picked up the license from there (tho it wasnt windows 11), and 2) when doing the fresh install I logged in my microsoft account and in the past I've owned a microsft surface so maybe they're giving me a license for free?¿? No that any of these 2 make too much sense but it's the only think I got. Thanks for helping me deal with my curiosity

OldNewExplorer is aslo good addition. Start11 is another solution for taskbar if explorer patcher registry fix win10 taskbar stops working in 2024 update.

Great video. As someone whose first computer is on win11, I actually like some of the win11 interface. The start menu can be convienent if you know you want to open a specific frequenly opened file or setting (one example for each: dimmer.zip and display settings, since I have a laptop), and it places apps in a visually convienent and accessible spot . The classic address bar win11 for file explorer also had that exact same feature you complained about wanting in win10. Otherwise, win11 is dogshit, I agree. Needlessly hidden features, etc. Even as someone who likes win11, I hate the disktop context menu and new address bar design. I knew abt explorer patch before watching, but appreciated it even more, having seen how people on win10 hate using win11 ui.

dont even need to watch it to know that open shell rocks! No more mobile app/bubbly/wasted space/triple spaced fonts for the desktop!! Now, all we need is a second instance of Settings LOL. Thats one of the biggest reason the legacy control panel is way better. Also, you should do a video on Atlas OS.

I personally use StartAllBack as it at the time it had more features and felt I could make it function like windows 7 but looks Identical to 11. But I used to use Classic Shell couple of years ago and for a free program I can't complain.

@@screwball992 I've heard that, but currently there are more options in open shell. The customization for your menu items is pretty deep and ofc you can edit things like width of the pop out menus, how many pop outs, animations, delays for any action. Way more, also FLOSS.

Use Revo Uninstaller to do those uninstalls. I haven't seen solitare or Cortana or whatever else since first use and I update every time I reboot essentially. Also have to recommend Start 11 and Windows blinds. Yes they are paid but they do what these options do with some awesome reskins available among other things but they integrate with each other so skin designers can make even better stuff. (Highly recommend Hyana Nexha by retired master, or anything by this guy and a gal going by Vampothika, both super talented.) I use both (plus Stardocks other stuffj for even more customization) and you wouldn't even recognize as being the same OS yet I also notice only about 6 percent increased CPU usage (which I've already regained by using Revo first thing after an Install) and I'm loaded with stuff. Compatibility is fine Anyway thanks for the vid

This video is literally making 10 and 11 look and function like 7, a Desktop OS. I like it. I've been on 7 since it released because I never liked the 8 8.1 10 and 11 interfaces which reskinned 7 and hid everything behind layers of menus. With changes to steam and win 7 compatibility and no guarantee how functional it will be Jan 1 I can use this to make it a viable OS for myself. If Steam continues to work I'm not swapping to 10/11. I've been saving a video you did like this a year or two ago in case I made the switch. I have not needed it yet.

you should consider using gog or pirating where justified for games, DRM games are a worse experience even with steam

We're trying to avoid cruft. Windows 11 plus VLC covers your need of codecs. K-Lite Codec Pack is recommended only for users of classic Windows Media Player in the rare instance that an old unpopular codec is needed.
