Mark! After I saw how they made your Sabich I had to try one. Instead of booking a flight there, I found out there is this wonderful hole in the wall in Kaimuki, across St Louis High, that makes the best Sabich on the island called Shaloha! I told the owner about Migrationology. For my first visit (last week) I tried the Shaloha plate which has every item on the menu. I returned today and the owner saw your video. He made me the exact Sabich with the eggplant, eggs, tahini, humus and every salad mix you could imagine. it even had the purple cabbage salad on top! The owner said the Sabich is a traditional food to eat after prayer. I just finished eating it and it was an absolutely heavenly lunch! I hope you go there when you return to the islands. Aloha!

It's called Lali Salad, invented by a young woman from Kibbutz Ma'ale HaHamisha (The Summit or Hill of the Five). Apparently sweet cherries were first planted in Israel at Ma'ale HaHamish, and that's where the salad originated. It was/is "my" kibbutz. I had family there, and I spent 3 summers there picking peaches, sweeping small factories, but there were no cherry trees in the early 70s. Amazing memories brought back half a century later, by a neat Asian guy hanging out in a very non Kosher restaurant in Tel Aviv. Thank you! (PS, make the salad, it's easy to find on google)

Mark, I liked the video very much. I have to say a few things. Israeli food is influenced by many countries from which Jews arrived. My grandparents came from Morocco, they brought with them a Moroccan Jewish kitchen, different but similar to the Moroccan Arab kitchen. Not all the food presented here represents Israel, of course. There is a lot of Arab food here, which we eat in neighboring countries. For example, the falafel that came from Egypt, the hummus from Syria and Lebanon...In short, Israel combines a diverse kitchen, with traditional Arab food on the one hand, which will not change for hundreds of years. And there is the Jewish / Israeli food that was directly affected, both from the countries from which Jews came and from the local food. It is important to note that during the period when Israel was called Palestine, Jews lived alongside Arabs and all were called Palestinians. To this day, despite the political situation in Israel, Jews and Arabs live side by side, work together, eat together and share food with one another. So please those who do not know anything about Israel, stop all the political statements and come visit, maybe you will learn something you did not know. Peace .

@ Palestinians did not live there at that time. Arabs didn't even start calling themselves "Palestinians" until the 1960's. Before 1948, the term was used to describe Jews living in the region. Everything with the names Palestine or Palestinian was Jewish. There was the Palestine Post, now known as the Jerusalem Post. There was the Anglo-Palestinian Bank, now Bank Leumi. The Palestine Symphony Orchestra was all Jewish. And the Palestine National Football (Soccer) team? All Jews. Furthermore, no Arab "Palestinian" artifacts or ruins have been found by archeologists. There have been plenty of Jewish artifacts and ruins discovered though.
@silentmoon12312 күн бұрын
@ ok so you’re speaking based on books, I’m speaking based on knowing actual old people that lived there from before 1948 that spoke Arabic and called themselves Palestinians and had their own customs and cultures. There were people of all faiths living there and of all ethnic backgrounds, you do know Palestinians have vast ethnic backgrounds which can include Jews from that region in their family not Jews from Europe and America. It’s funny how you assume everyone who lived in Palestine and spoke Arabic have only arab ancestry, in one family you will find a mixed of ethnic backgrounds, back then all backgrounds lived together. Are you saying that the people whatever you want to call them that lived there deserved to have their homes bulldozed, graves demolished, and forcibly kicked out to neighbouring countries to make way from Jews from other ethnic backgrounds to come have a second home? Is that justified to you? For you to think it’s normal to completely dismiss people who are ethnically from that country who may be Christian or Muslim is absolutely abhorrent. They have all the right to live where their ancestors did as well not only the Jews.

Shalom Mark! If I only knew you're here in Israel, would love to join your food trip. I agree, Abu Hassan has the best hummus in town. My other favorite is Sabich Sholomo and Doron in Carmel Market. Of all the steeet foods here in Israel, Sabich is my favorite and two of my favorite spot of Sabich aside from Tchernichoisky are Sabich Oved in Givatayim and Sabich Frishmen in Dezengoff st., corner Frishman st. A must try resto here in Tel Aviv, IMO is the Old Men and the Sea, where you'll be treated to more than 20 plus Mediterranean salads and fresh seafoods. Authentic Arabic sweets and coffee after. It's a must try. Anyone wants to tour around some of the best foods here in Israel are welcome to message me. 😂✌️

sabich is from iraq you absolute phony. pure orientalism at it's finest. Why go there when I can go to an arab country and try actual middle eastern food?

@@AB-en9pl you are an absolute tool, Jews fled from Iraq to Israel from late 19th century to mid 20th century - Sabih is from their heritage, it is still Iraqi origin.. prepared by Iraqi descendants. it also said so in the video that sabih is originally iraqi so why you cry so much?
