Car actually runs on 117 octane racing fuel. Ford supplies 3 tunes. The 82 tune is considered wide open throttle. My brother and I typically run the car on the 50% tune which is the lowest horsepower tune that comes with the car from Ford. This was the very first pass after taking delivery from Tindol Ford in Gastonia, NC.

It survived 850HP in the 850HP 2000 SVE Boss It survives 1000HP in the GT1000 Ford also offers the Torsen T2 with 6(Six! Count 'em baby!) carrier worm pinions, for a total of 8 gears in the carrier: 6 worms & 2 side gears.

Car is probably capable of mid to high 8.90's with the 82 tune supplied by Ford. I have seen some quicker COPO's on the Internet but most were modified. This car is factory stock and ran 9.09 with stickers still on the slicks for it's first pass. Weather was decent that day but not optimal by any means and we were not running at sea level. We are very pleased with it regardless. Just two CPA's having a good time kicking some ass here and there with just a 5.0 liter engine.

Carl's a great driver for sure. He actually made the pass in this video for us when we he was testing at ZMax in October. Stepped right in to our car that still had stickers on the slicks, launched without the trans brake and ran 9.09 in our car. I think our car will go 8.90's stock in cooler weather and lower altitude than this Oct 2012 pass.

GT500 5.8L is bored to the max source SVT Engineer, Mustang5.0 MAG, Fast Fords also the welded liner leaves the metal brittle underneath, meaning more would need to be removed(overbored) before being rewelded but then would be too close to the water jacket performance package is sold by authorized dealers, when purchased ZL1 comes from the dealer with 790hp @15psi boost by changing the supercharger pulley. the parts are warrantied at a certified dealers

Carl Messenger also rebuilt a 5.8L DOHC. Carl disassembles a 5.8L engine&completely rebuilds it w/ brand new pistons,rods,&crank. They put it on a dyno&w/ a weak tune,&got 721RWHP. Later they changed pulley&cam&retuned to 821RWHP. More mods&power to come. Son, the SVT engineers were only being on the safe side. As usual,they underrated the engine. The 5.8L has been rebuilt @least 3 times. These are Carl Messenger, Lethal Performance, & Evolution Performance. Before you go on and say they were still brand new engines, the Lethal 2013 GT500 was run hard on the track many times &the engine was damaged. Lethal rebuilt their used & damaged 5.8L & its now putting over 1100RWHP on the dyno.

The new 5.0L was designed from the beginning to replace the 5.4L engine. The new 5.0 is designed with better structural reinforcement including increased webbing and other load bearing structures to take forced induction. The only thing this engine needs is true forged conrods and pistons.

Son, the 5.0L has almost exactly the same stroke and conrod length as the LS3. That means the LS3 also wears itself out according to your faulty login. The 5.0L is so well balanced that it has proven to survive 8000rpm torture tests

I know even V6 Camaro came with a trackbar & torque arm back 1990 but V8 Mustang GT didn't even get a trackbar until 2005 SS Camaro 1LE has a TR6060 MM6 with wider gears for better torque management than TR-6060 GT500 uses Also 9.9'' axle with 4 carrier pinons very strong, can handle drag radials stock GT500 only has 8.8''axle with 2 carrier pinons, i have seen GT500 bend their axle at the hub with slimmer stock tires & stock Power

the steep angle 5.0L pushes the piston against the cylinder wall actually accelerates the piston to speeds greater than the crankshaft is turning, meaning faster pistons speeds than Formula1 engine @ 18,000rpm or 0mph to 82.58mph to 0mph 250 times a second formula one does about 81mph but doesn't have a steep angle because they use longer rods shorter stroke for durability also GT has isostaically formed rods, while SS Drop Forges & Ball Peen Forged rods, Ford has to order from manley for GT500

Started when some College guy rolled up on me with a brand new 1988 5.0 conv. while in my 78 Z28. I had no idea until after we launched just how fast they were. It's what you do to the car is what makes it. I argue with my friend, me G.M. him Ford. but he's the one with the self built all motor 11 sec. stang. Sure I could get into 11's with my LS1 but can't justify it right now.

You are talking about the roll cage certification by NHRA. The '13 CJ's are also certified by NHRA to 8.50 as well. I have the sheet. Means nothing. A stock COPO runs mid to high 9's in stock form without a blower. Several videos out there on KZbin.

Funny you say that. My parents have a '91 S-10 they are trying to give me, but with only 87k on the odometer, the paint is peeling off of it, the door panels have both fallen off (so has the headliner), both power windows are broken and it idles so rough, the mirrors look like I have a 5,000 watt stereo bumping in it. I'd be surprised if their truck made it another 500 miles, much less to 100k. I told them to donate it to charity.

Um, son, not true. Lethal Performance ran their 2013 GT500 hard on the track. They also damaged the 5.8L. They rebuilt the 5.8L with Diamond pistons, true forged H-beam rods, Cobra Jet crank and put it back in the car. Lethal's REBUILT 2013 5.8L is now producing over 1100RWHP on the dyno. If you dont believe me, read 5.0Mag, July 2013 release, pg 54, the article named "White Feat" And son, thanks for your subscription to 5,0 Mag!

And 2012 ZL1 showed up for 2013 GT500 & GT500 won. Son, the GT still has more potential to handle much better than even the SS-1LE. Mod both the SS-1LE and the GT suspension to the max, and even with stick axle, GT will be better on the track. Why? GT is lighter and more nimble. And son, this is also fact, and that will never change either.

Sure. The LS7 in the Copo Camaro only puts out 425hp even though the LS7 in the Z06 produces 505hp. The gearing allows the car to accelerate as quickly as possible. Yes, I do believe that the Cobra Jet can hit 150 in the 1/4.

Bring out your 8 second factory stock COPO that you own and drive and I'd be glad to match race you. I've seen plenty of COPO's running 9's and not 8's by the way. Well known race teams are running 8's in the Cobra Jet and COPO but check out their list of mods. This was the car's first pass leaving without transbrake and at just 2,000 to 2,500 RPM's. Only mods here are adjusting air pressure in tires. Car will run 8.90's this fall in factory stock trim.

No, all these factory stock race cars are not street legal. They dont have any emission controls, etc. All three of the Big Three factory stock drag cars, the Cobra Jet, the COPO, and the Challenger Drag Pack, are track only and not street legal.

5.0L has a longer stroke but shorter rods than SS LS3, even with shorter rods, lighter rotating assembly it can;t 0balance internally, meaning it can;t fit the whole crankshaft, which hasn't been done in a muscle car since LT in early 90's longer stroke = faster piston speed shorter rods, means steeper angle pushing the piston against cylinder walls, this is fine if you have a large bore like SS to spread the pressure over, but 5.0L also has higher compression = resists piston acceleration

I had to get them from a forum cause Ford won't post them but it seems they have 4.0L supercharger add on that makes 500hp 5.4L, which makes Cobrajet a lot weaker than COPO Camaros 5.3L 550hp. Crobrajet 5.4L 3175lbs/500hp = 6.3 rating 4.0L supercharger Copo Camaro 5.3L 3175/550hp = 5.7 rated 4.0L supercharger still a much slower class with a bigger motor

I have the NHRA tech sheet that came with our '13 CJ. NHRA rates the 5.0L SC 302 at 500HP and 3,175 lbs - happy to email it to you - these tech specs are all BS anyway but that is what NHRA rates the car - also see class racer forum which would show you the engine choices and NHRA tech specs on the'13's from Ford

All I see are dealers who are authorized sellers if Lingenfelter modified cars, SLP modified cars, etc. But there is not a shred of any hint that a 790HP performance package exists. What people are ignorant to see is that Ford produces and shares many aspects in Mazda also, but 'gearlaw' was talking out of his ass. 5.8L GT500 engine is 1 time use, when the cylinders are worn out, you have to order a new block. Ford doesn;t make GT500 engine block. It is made by Honsel in Germany, and they don;t sell them with a liner, you have to weld have ford weld a liner for you. when Ford cancels their contract with Honsel. The engine block will becoma unavailable as Ford can't make a block to handle GT500 boost levels Even if you could get a block from Honsel, Ford isn't gonna let you bring it in to have a liner made
