We're all for an event that culminates with the serving of cake, especially when the sweet stuff is delivered in tandem with supercharged Mustang coupes built especially for drag racing. Ford recently threw a party at the Auto Alliance Mustang factory in Flat Rock, MI to celebrate the official delivery of its new 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet, a vehicle that the company proudly maintains is quickest accelerating production vehicle ever made. When pressed, Ford tells us the CJ will do a 60-foot launch in 1.3 seconds and the quarter-mile in under 10 seconds. We asked about a 0-60 mph time, but we were reminded that measurement is pretty meaningless in drag racing.
Cobra Jet buyers from all over came from as far away as Calgary, Alberta and Puerto Rico to participate in the ceremony and take delivery of their new racecars, and we're betting they would have made the trek even without the sheet cake. All attendees signed a 2012 Mustang Cobra Jet hood that will later be placed on the walls of the production facility.

Here's a fact for all the Ford hating GM and Mopar nut swingers.....which companies current performance engine has made an 8 second pass and over 1000hp and TQ to the wheels with simply tuning and a bolt on turbo kit with bone stock short block/heads/cams etc? It's simply a matter of the person got mixed up and got the times wrong in the title or put in a ridiculous 0-60 time to get views (more likely). I thought at first the person meant the 0-60 foot times (as someone else also suggested) but that is 1.3 seconds. So, yeah, no chance of doing 0-60 in less than a second.

What the original commenter is missing is a significant part of drag racing- acceleration, which is what this car is built for. High gear ratio, plus fine-tuned gears themselves (and not many of 'em) sacrifice top speed mph in exchange for getting the car to cover a short distance in a small amount of time, using the best acceleration possible.

Are you trolling or?.. 1990 300zx twin turbos and 1992 Supra twin turbos both have better 0-60 times out of the box than your beloved terminator. And with a supercharged 4.7l v8 vs turbo 3.0 v6 thats quite sad. I like 03-04 Cobras but for you to even consider them to be really fast is a little ridiculous. Btw both the 90s cars i mentioned are capable of more power with the stock internals than the Ford 5.0. Read a book

Sorry, I dont think your close to being right on that one. The 03-04 cobra came with a built bottom end, theyre capable easily of 450+ at the wheels. Stock vs stock, theyre not faster, they're dead even. Pulley swap and that drastically changes. Then you've got the kenne bell. I'd like to see a turbo swapped supra on stock internals keep up with a kenne bell.

Lol... Well seems as both the Supra and the 300zx engines came with forged internals capable of +800whp they kind of have the upper hand on the Cobra there. Do you even have the slightest clue about the 2jz or vg30? I wont say they are better, but both are at least as capable as the 4.6 cobra engine with similar modifications. A turbo swapped vg or 2j can go as high as you want it to, im not sure what your point with that is..

Btw you mentioned a pulley swap.. That is pretty much the equivalent of a boost controller for the vg or 2j. And dont quote me on the 2j, but as far as the vg goes, with a boost controller turned up to 14.5psi from the stock 9 (assuming the car is literally bone stock other than the boost controller) that is +100hp. Thats 100hp over stock for about $150.

Not sure about the Z (besides knowing it's a fast car), but the supra, on any builds I've read, topped out at 500bhp with stock internals/bottom end. I'm also not putting those cars down, just saying the cobra is not inferior stock, or upgraded. And in the displacement department, the 1984 svo came with forged internals, and could be built to handle some impressive power as well (as well as some of these 2000's "boy racer" 4bangers and hot hatches)

The mk4 supra with the 2jzgte can hand way more than 500hp on stock internals. Google 2jz stock internals, there is plenty of cases of people pushing 800 or so (i wouldnt suggest doing that but it will handle it for a while). The 300zx is the same, the only thing that might go at 800hp would be the pistons, but if you replace the pistons you might as well build the whole block while its apart haha. I recently watched a 9 second stock engine Supra (upgraded turbo and i believe NOS but the longblock was 100% stock) on youtube somewhere! My only problem with the Cobra is how ignorant its fanboys and owners tend to be to think its the only car around thats capable of making power with little modification! I would love to park one in my garage next to my z32 tt and have a little hp competition with myself lol.

340 on a bolt on 5.0 is pretty damn good since I have stock heads, headers, and intake manifold. Swapp them for some shorty long tubes, BBK intake, and GT40P heads Ill be well over 370rwhp. I know Fords suspension set up isnt great. Thats why they made the Boss 302. Its made for the track and they beat m3s no problem. Any car will with the right upgrades.

He said it was the fastest "production" car in the world....which was true at the time it was documented. It would easily beat the Bugatti Veyron and any other "production" car...meaning "bone stock". So the claim is correct. Sure there are faster cars as in the Hennessy Venom which technically is a "tuner" car and not a production line automobile. Lamborghinis don't come close to these cars. However, the Chevy COPO has run faster since this video.

But you can trubo the hell out of the GT, and the stock rods will survive. Yeah, I know this is pretty old but it certainly isn't any longer the fastest production car in the world. The Chevy COPO Camaro ran 8.88 at 142 and he lifted at the 1000 foot mark. This is really going to be a challenge for both the Super Cobra Jet and the COPO. Long live the Muscle Mustangs and Chevys!!!

it isn't street legal so it doesn't count.. i'm sure its well built and its a collector's car but as soon as you change the engine which you will have to do after a certain # of races this "collector's car" as with all collector's car will be worthless if it isn't the original engine

Don't lie, every modder worth their salt knows about the Texas Mile. It is a standing benchmark and great modders bring their cars there to set records. The likes of Lingenfelter, and Hennessy have set records in their modded Ford GTs.
