Day 275.
Today, as his time in Ukraine draws to a close, we talk to Freelance journalist Sergio Olmos in Kyiv about life under bombardment and the spirit of determination seen in cafés and on street corners. We also discuss recent remarks by Angela Merkel about Germany's response to the invasion and - to mark 9 months since the start of the full-scale invasion - we reflect on the conflict’s major turning points so far.

Despite Sergio’s observation about Kiev residents not being interested in Zelensky’s nightly address, I think his decision to stay made a huge impact on their view of him. His approval rate skyrocketed from very low to into the 90s. I was surprised to find that the Ukrainian KZbinrs I follow didn’t vote for Zelensky. But their view of him changed after the war started and one actually said He stayed with us. And as for what he did to influence the world to help them, this same guy said he was so proud of him.

@AlanLeahy Take Yale’s history course on KZbin by Dr Timothy Snyder “The Making of Modern Ukraine” with the assigned reading of Bloodlands. Stalin’s starvation of Ukraine that killed millions of people -1932-33. The Great Terror killing and murder of Ethnic Poles in Ukraine along with other Kolaks. Thats just 2 chapters out of a novel of horror. Oliver Stone makes good entertainment I give him that. But “truth is stranger then fiction” and is this case the unmitigated nightmare. This is the best of all the shows I have seen. I would title it "Ukraine discovers Socialism" as it is the opposite of what the Soviets said it was. Perhaps a lot of it was driven by war, but towards the end of the Soviet Era I was hearing the same thing about Poles in relation to each other in common opposition to the Russian imposed government that between people mutual concern and respect were commonplace.

Francis, this is why Germany needs to be looked at within a collective voice of the EU community. No single voice can carry the whole burden of being a comprehensive wisdom of their own culture and the view of the outside environment, and the vision of where to go into the future. So if they don’t look at themselves in this community context. We are all part of the community. As a journalist please don’t use your role model the adversarial model of the courtroom. We are all together in seeking the truth (little “t”) .it takes a collective set of eyes and minds. The journalist can start as a mirror .but as I am saying, there is a greater we have as members of an ever-advancing. Civilization

Russia can't be removed from UN security council; or any other permanent member. As soon as something that would require UN action comes up, one of the security council members blocks it. For good or for bad. The UN is completely incapable to do anything. This was clear from the very start of UN. It's mostly a clown show.
