I chose an uplifted bear for my mechanic character in a friend's Starfinder game. One thing I did want to point out: we deemed it from the way it's written that the bears can not have BRAIN augmentations but augmentations for the eyes, hands, legs etc are okay. This is good because augmentations are a pretty good way to get some additional flexibility to damage resistance, movement, ability checks, etc as you play/level up.

My favorite character I've ever played is an Uplifted Bear Blitz Soldier. (Warning, long-winded description of my character follows. Skip if you want, I just love talking about her) She looks like a panda, wears a purple flower by her ear, and bright pink heavy armor covered in cute stickers (and often the blood and guts of her foes). She didn't get the brains though. She's not exactly dumb, just has no common sense and even worse social skills. She always wants to make friends will all the Ysoki, Skittermanders, and other small races the party comes across. She doesn't quite understand why she cannot legally marry her favorite weapon "Sparkles" (Storm hammer) and often tries to eat things she shouldn't, but is an absolute killing machine on the battlefield. One of the party members usually gives her a snack to shush her during important NPC interactions or she WILL say something dumb and awkward. I have had THE MOST fun playing her and will be sad to retire her at the end of this current AP.

I have never played StarFinder before, and I just last month played dnd for the first time. Me and my friends are playing StarFinder now, and I’m going to go for a Marvel Kingpin type character. Intimidating, powerful, and smart. Thank you for this video, it will definitely help!

I was under the impression that they just have a reach of 5 feet, which is the standard adjacency. Regardless, I think they are super fun. I've been running one as a Vanguard and boy is that ever cool.

Melee always has to be adjacent unless you have reach, in which case you threaten the squares around you and can hit from 5 feet away, across one square as I understand the rules.

@@TheMapleTable interesting perspective. i imagine the center of a square to the center of an adjacent square to be 5 feet, so the specific wording in the race description makes me do a double take on that understanding of the rules.

Hate to revive a two year old comment thread, but this *is* actually the case. By default, large creatures have a 10 foot reach, and this specifies that they only have the ability to reach into the next square, same as a Small or Medium creature.

Note that Reach of 5 ft is same as a small creature or a larger long creature. i.e. can hit a square adjacent to themselves, the youtuber seemed confused about that.

Any player who breaks either of the above two rules are in breach of the Geneva Convention and are a deplorable walking crime against humanity.
