3 years ago I graduated engineering school. It took me 3 months to find a job with a consulting firm. I was very eager to please in any way. 3 weeks in I got an email from a spoofed account impersonating my boss telling me he wanted me to buy some gift card for some of our clients. I rushed out of the house before work and did just that and sent the codes. I was put of $500 within 30minutes. I always felt i could never be scammed since they are so predictable, but you are right sir they are very sophisticated at their craft and always finding new angles of attack. I have yet since to fall for any suspicious emails or texts since and always thinking about the situation. Im glad you got youre money back before it was transferred. My bank told me i authorized the transaction and it was my fault. Had it not been a debit card I would of been luckier...

Unless I recognize the number, I do not answer. Yes, the phone does ring off the wall at times, but we soften the rings so they do not bother us. And, we never send money to anyone.

You and I disagree strongly with regard to politics and we have argued our differences in the past. However, when it comes to telemarketer scams we are on the same page. I regret you were a victim of a scam but thank goodness you didn't lose money. I first learned of this type scam a few years ago where they try to convince you a loved one has been arrested and if you quickly send money, they can get that loved one out of jail. Many scams are from India but this one is from the US as i understand. Anyway, glad it worked out in the end and I applaud your efforts to expose this scam. If your efforts help just one other person, that will be amazing. Good Luck and God Bless even though you claim to be an atheist.

Sir, I have to ask. Did the police tell you how they got some stranger to impersonate your grandson so well, as to fool you and your wife into believing that it was in fact, your grandson? I'm trying to place myself in your sheos, but all I could come up with, is to call his parent aka your son. But, I've been fooled before and I'm by no means an expert or a profiler or whatever else law enforcement uses.

Hi John Doe, Of course the very first thing we did was try to call our son, his dad, but we could not contact him. The "grandson" was crying so much that we couldn't tell he was a fake.
