I loved this episode for how it shows both sides aren’t completely innocent. Both are fault in a way. It makes the story engaging. I want Allura to make peace with the ponies and have a happy end, but I get why that’s not going to be easy. 1: These are the same ponies that made her situation the way it is in maretime bay. Izzy’s creation of the board trot with the Nova charm (accidentally) meant Allura had no way of leaving their realm. Meaning she has to deal with the heat and warm climate with all that fur. 2: Zipp’s message in Icy Prints painted Allura as something to be feared, even when she was not doing anything to harm others at that time. 3: There was also a full movie recapping Secrets of Starlight. I doubt that helped the towns opinion of her. And the same time, their concerns about Allura aren’t exactly unfounded. As SOS shows, Allura isn’t afraid of going to extremes when she thinks it’s necessary. This episode emphasizes how she isn’t helping the situation by conforming with their suspicions and assumptions, even when we know from No Place Like Home, it’s because she has spent the majority of her life fending for herself (and then Twitch) after being kicked out of any and every home she tried to make. In her experience the odds of creatures opening up to her are slim to none and history seems to be repeating itself. So why should she take the leap of faith from the pony (or ponies) that put her in that position to being with. I’m reminded MYM Sunny Side Up. Misty talked about leaving Opaline, but when the alicorn came back, Misty backed down. Her life with Opaline was her normal since foalhood. One good pep talk isn’t going to change that, not even two good pep talks. She took about half of MYM and about 10 episodes of TYT before switching sides, but we did see her progression gradually over time. I believe the same is happening here. We do see (small) cracks being built to form. The back and forth of Allura and the ponies makes the conflict so gripping for me. Also I like the development for Posey, telling Zipp about her mysterious time loss. She even recalls Zipp’s line of how ponies look out for each other. If the local Karen and an evil minion can come around, so can Allura, but each has to be willing to come together.
