I think the best for Helle would be to constuct a full tang Temagami. This would sell also much more as a knife and bring them profits too

The void weakens the wood, and the blade's corner then bears at the point of greatest leverage against that weak portion. just shaving off that sharp corner would have helped them.

It's clear you are a professional medic, I don't think someone without a very trained eye could see an empty space in the handle just from a bit lighter shade of grey in the x-ray. Speaking for myself I'd never have noticed that without someone telling me where to look at. Keep up with the good work!

Well, apparently I'm not the only one who chipped the handle. And I also used used epoxy. The X-rays helped too.

Is Helle going to repair or replace the knife for you ? I think they should.

It’s a design oversight where they didn’t see the potential for the wooden lip to be sheared off.

What are some ways to improve the design without compromising ergonomics?
@Tremulousnut
@Tremulousnut 5 жыл бұрын
@@adamgoodone9161 They picked this design for weight saving while still being within the realm of "full tang" to withstand batoning. Helle call it a "semi-full tang". The issue of the lip shearing off when batoning is a known issue. Maybe they could do what Bark River do with their handles. Look at Bravo 1.25 LT for example, it has that lip but there is metal backing it. It's still light because they skeletonise the tang. Alternatively they could put a guard/ferrule at that area for reinforcement.

Yes it does, and quite well.....Just the way Les Stroud promoted the Helle Temagami knife would work when he co-designed it with Helle, then promoted it at trade shows and on his TV series... A design flaw has now been exposed, don't get your knickers in a knot because you bought one and are now feeling ripped off. I've heard of similar problems with this knife in Canada..

Is that darker area the glue? If so there's not much wood there at the end of the blade.

This is why I never ever buy or abuse knives with stag, bone or wood handle. Answer is C.R.A.C.K.

The issue isn’t the fact that the handle is wood, the problem is there needs to be a guard at that point. It’s a known issue with the Temagami.
@Neeverseen

It's a bit harsh to call it flaw, batoning is generally considered misuse. The tang not being properly fitted in the handle is a valid issue though.

It's not made for batoning, actually - Helle is pretty clear about this for most of their knife line, it's not their philosophy

It's a fad of more modern times, woodsman would never do this back in the day. It just wasn't a thing. Knives cut things, they used a hatchet or froe for splitting kindling. Really wouldn't need to in a survival situation either, in pretty much all instances splitting isn't necessary to start a fire in the woods and if it is use your knife to carve out a quick splitting wedge. A knife will never be as good at a axes job and the closer it gets to an axe the worse it performs as a knife.

Why don't you just get a bespoke knife, the knife maker only needs know the width of your palm, length of your index finger and thumb to make you a perfect knife.

Helle used to make quality knives but today the quality has dropped significantly. The bevel grinders are inexperienced and also the factory QC checks before shipments is nonexistent. I only report my observations for others.
