Definitely not Worth the money. 430 euros!? For Simple knife! I know this guys are well known and social media do a lot but Hey you can get simmilar blades for 250 euros in cpm 3v which is better choice for bushcraft. Malanika knives are cheaper. Shame!
@andreasmuller7746 Жыл бұрын
@@jimlahey5623Well, that is a hefty price tag on the DBK bushcrafter. Too much money for many knife people, but regarding the price trc demands for its own models I think the price is comparable. Personally I would not by knifes in this price class, since there are other brands and makers that have the same quality, like the one you mentioned.

When I decided to look into the issue of saws, KZbin suggested your channel to me. I have watched some videos of you using Silky saws. As a result, I now have three Silky saws: Bigboy, Gomtaro and Katanaboy 650. I am very pleased with these tools, as now chopping firewood while hiking has become a real pleasure. Your videos about knives are also very interesting. It's a little strange to me that you, while in Japan, use knives from European manufacturers. It seems to me that the craftsmanship of knife making in Japan is at the highest level. It's always interesting and informative to watch your videos, thank you.
@Dhari1 Жыл бұрын
Hey there, quick question if you don't mind: If size and weight is not a problem what Silky would you choose?
@hikewomeat Жыл бұрын
@@Dhari1 If weight and size do not matter, then most likely Katanaboy 650. But this is precisely in order to cut large logs. For small woodwork, up to about 10 cm in diameter, I would prefer a Gomtaro saw. It has a straight blade and is very convenient for such work. Bigboy is a versatile, compromise option when light weight and sufficient performance are needed. I use either Katanaboy + Gomtaro or Bigboy + Gomtaro depending on the situation. For me weight and size matter. If I go to the forest for a short time, then there is no point in carrying Katanaboy with me. Naturally, the performance of this saw is the largest of those listed. I will separately note saws with a curved blade. In my opinion, they are needed for arborists and those who care for fruit trees. For hiking in the woods and chopping firewood or for bushcrafting, a straight blade saw is better.
@timasuna1756 Жыл бұрын
@@hikewomeatI use the curved Gomboy for simple overnight camp trips. I prefer to take fallen wood instead of cutting down trees. I noticed the curved blade helps remove more wood easily from different angles without moving much (usually wood on the ground has veg clutching it) that helps me only need one stomp to break smaller sections easily.
@timasuna1756 Жыл бұрын
Not relevant to the post 🤷 I just love the curved Gomboy for it's ease of procuring downed wood clutched by ivy
@hikewomeat Жыл бұрын
@@timasuna1756 I do not often cut the trees. Only in the case when such a tree is a danger and can fall onto the tent. I never cut living trees at all. It all depends on the type of forest. Where I most often go, the forest consists of large coniferous trees. I try to use thick logs for the fire. I use thin branches to burn them in a wood stove. Perhaps in certain cases a saw with a curved blade is more convenient. It depends on specific circumstances. Moreover, I use a machete to cut thin branches. If the thickness does not exceed 5-7 cm, then using a machete, you can cut branches much faster than a saw.

Skeletonization is complete fail. Mike Stewart of BRKT actually said on Skeletonized tangs “it actually makes it stronger” to which Cliff Stamp (an actual Physicist and knife and sharpening master in the truest sense of the word) said “well, by that reasoning the strongest configuration would be no handle at all!” 😂 BRKT have some very nice designs and I own a few of them but I’ll never buy them again on principle.

I believe the alignment of the point of the knife to the centerline is for making holes in bushcraft. Makes it easy to spin the knife after pushing the tip in to carve out the material.

People are asking ridiculous money for knives these days. They have become objects of desire/snob value items from functional tools. Those who disagree can spare me the comments about skill and efforts that go into making them. There are still some who do not charge an arm and leg yet offer quality knives.

A blade with a continuous curve, or near continuous curve, (belly line) is far more useful in bushcraft usage than a straight line. Check out Mors Kochanski’s book and the Skookum Bushtool for info on it. It’s absolutely superior in wood carving.
