This has become the inspiration for a temperature blanket based on my only child's birth year.

Beautiful blanket and so inspiring...I imagine you could use each season (spring, summer,winter and fall) for the gray shades to attach the circles...it would be a good legend...😊

Dang! This blanket is gorgeous! I thought about making one with all of the data that she used, but I'm working on my very first blanket and making it a temperature blanket seems complicated enough for a first project. I thought also about using different stitches for the rain or snow. One day lol

This is so awesome! I found Cara on IG and have had fun following her work on there, but watching the interview is so much fun. I'm really psyched to start my own now!

I like you point about not just doing it because a bunch of people are. I did my first one as a Christmas gift last year after 3yrs of thinking about it. It commemorated my 1yr anniversary with my bf so I had a "reason" to do it and LOVED it. Cant wait to do another one, after I finish the projects already queued lol.

Oh man. When you said about the equinox and daylight hours, I made a spreadsheet as I’m preparing for 2023. Just learned crochet in mid July but I’ve like done so much math with it and this spreadsheet is intense!! Lol. But I’ve figured it all out. I would send it to y’all if you wanted it. It’s really easy to just plug in your times and the numbers will auto formulate. That took me so long. But I’ve been prepping like crazy. I’m just so anxious to get started. 🙃

Have to admit that I haven't heard of temperature blankets till recently, but now that I have want to try one. Want to decide on a pattern first as I have a room full of yarn so hopefully I won't have to go buy anymore 😅, but any excuse to is okay with me.

Cara, your blanket/afghan is stunning. One question and maybe I missed it, when you crocheted your circles, is the outside the high of the day, the middle the low of the day and then the middle circle hours of daylight per day? Did you say you used 16 colors for the circles and then 4 for joining the seasons? What an accomplishment!!!
@januaryone6913 Жыл бұрын
Hi! The inside circle is the low temp of the day, middle circle is the average temp, and the outer circle is the high temp. I did used four different background colors to symbolize the different seasons - but I changed them halfway through each season more to symbolize the amount of daylight. And I’m pretty sure I used 18 colors for the circles on this blanket. Thanks so much!!!

I love this. Personally, I would keep the "sawtooth" edge. I think it lends it a homey feel.

I took a look at Ravelry to see if there was something close that I could direct you to, but i didn't see anything that close! Cara does have a series of video tutorials for each step -- they're saved in the "Temp Blankets" highlight on her Instgram, january_one. Hope that's helpful! ~K🧶

I have a chart where I right down each one that I can refer to when joining them to the blanket. I try to do about two weeks at a time so there isn’t really a backlog of circles to worry about. Thanks!

What I'd really like to do is a 40 year blanket for my daughter, on my flatbed knitting machine, with 20 stitches per row, and each band of stripes representing a year of her life, then sew all 40 bands together. I could easily knit an entire year each day to get it done quickly, in time for her birthday. BUT I don't know where to get the historical daily weather data for Newark, for the last 40 years.
