Nice one! I enjoyed the circle to land on Runway 1. I also enjoyed hearing you say "so cool" as you started cloud surfing -- nice to know you're not jaded and still get a kick out of the sights and sounds. Couple of questions: (1) what determined your choice of the ILS approach over the RNAV 03? Looks like the LPV minima are about the same as the ILS (994/40) -- is there some factor making the ILS preferable? And just randomly, if you know -- (2) is there no instrument approach to runway 01 because of those 2049' MSL TV towers to the southeast of the airport (or the tall buildings closer in)? Too bad, since as you pointed out 01 is the long runway and it has EMAS at both ends, which makes it seem like the preferred choice for big guys. Anyway, another great video. Thanks!
@IllFlyIt6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the questions Gordon! No real reason I picked the ILS over the RNAV. If anything, I chose the ILS because I’ve seen that approach several times so I’m familiar with it and the circle to runway 1. I believe you are correct about runway 1 approach. The towers are too close to the final approach course to allow for an instrument approach. I’m still fascinated and awestruck at the sights I get to see while flying. I’m humbled that I can get paid to do this and I love sharing the views with you all on here.

We'll keep watching -- and appreciating the trouble and effort it takes to bring us those views! And I have to agree with others that a great asset of your channel compared to other aviation channels is the level of nuts-and-bolts detail you provide, like showing us the SIDs and STARs and approach plates and presenting a full beginning-to-end view of a given flight. Great stuff and educational for us IFR pilots who fly a third of your speed.

Great flight, thanks for sharing. At around 20:40 in a few seconds you have to do three things at almost the same time: reducing the speed, setting a new altitude (7000) and setting a new heading out of that intersection. As you are the PF it is you turning all three knobs in just an eyeblink with Lori just monitoring. In Shawn and Jon's coporate pilot life videos you often see them both dialing knobs simultaniously. Just wondering if that is a company choice or aircraft type specific. Or can you handle the tasks at such moments just the way Lori and you decide?
@IllFlyIt6 жыл бұрын
Good question and good observations! Our standard operating procedure directs who operates the AFCS panel. (Automatic flight control system panel). The pilot making the inputs depends on the autopilot status. If the autopilot is ON the pilot flying makes all AFCS and FMS changes and the pilot monitoring confirms the input. This is why I’m often repeating ATC clearances to my copilot, it’s to verify we’ve set the correct headings and altitudes. I’m not sure how Sean and Jon do things. I’ve watched some of their videos but haven’t noticed how they do things. It could be aircraft specific but I’m not sure. Thanks again for the questions and for watching!

I think they'll have to upgrade to G3000s eventually. I dont know if its true but I've heard the G1000 is no longer available from the factory. I personally like my knobs and buttons. Touchscreens can be, touchy... lol

JesseFlies - I was fortunate to work n “play” in the new 300EV at KMLB. it does seem odd without knobs but more great screen choices for better Sit A. Maybe your company will get the G1000 NXI Upgrade way cheaper than full retrofit to 3000 www.aviationconsumer.com/issues/49_2/avionicsreport/Garmin-G1000-NXi_7023-1.html Thanks for the vids n replying

I noticed you were working the throttles, as you were descending, Jesse. That explains why.

Would it have been advisable to request an option for the circle to land 1 prior to the hand-off from approach? Maybe the tower controllers at this field are used to this request.. but what if it was not granted? Would you have then executed a missed approach?
@IllFlyIt6 жыл бұрын
Most of the time at towered airports the request to circle has to be made with the tower. Approach control can relay the request to the tower before you arrive to help coordinate the circle. If they were unable accommodate the circle we could have landed straight in on runway 3 since it was dry. If the runway was wet our landing distance required would have exceeded the available landing distance. In that case we would have not even attempted the approach. Great question!

When you were told to descend to 7000 and turn to 290, did you have to wait till you slowed down to 250 before you turned to 290?
@IllFlyIt6 жыл бұрын
The turn to 290° was after we crossed TYGER. The 250kts and turn happened at almost the same time so it looked as if they were supposed to happen together. Good observation and great question, thanks for asking!

Whats the flight level change for at 400ft? Setting alt to qne? Isnt that too early? (Im sure your doing it right, just wondering) Thanks for the videos!!
@IllFlyIt6 жыл бұрын
Flight Level Change is a pitch mode that follows indicated airspeed/mach. While hand flying I prefer to use FLC instead of vertical speed. I'm not sure how other aircraft use Flight Level Change but this is how the Phenom is.

Final Cut is made by apple for apple. I think most windows users use Adobe Premiere.
@airfiero47726 жыл бұрын
Adobe wants a FORTUNE for it. And you don’t buy the software, you basically subscribe or rent it by the month or year. I doubt my KZbin channel will ever get enough views to justify the cost. I guess I’m stuck with the free GoPro software.
