A kind person wrote what I wanted to tell you, so I'll copy and paste it. Gomennasorry Note for EN peeps (although I think most people know this already): at 1:46 totsumachi are those "waiting for a call" stream, Fubuki's making fun of how nobody came to Aqua's totsumachi. Can't really rely on ggr hnyk (and maybe deepl?) sensei on this one sadly, it'll just be "convex" lol. Many English pronouns are gendered which isn't common in many languages. Eg. '-san' in Japanese is used for both genders. Translation tools often favour male pronouns which is why you'll often here non-native English speakers use the incorrect one. (This is why many call centres will use the wrong term, I worked on a call line and was often explaining it wasn't meant as an insult.) I'd recommend translating to the gender neutral term 'they/them'. That way it's always accurate and you don't have to worry about using the wrong one. Postscript. I honestly don't have a deep understanding of the They, Them issue. I just wanted to let you know that I really didn't make the mistake on purpose. From now on, I will translate in the same way as before. I'll try not to make mistakes with he and she.

couple of things: 1) Japanese '-san' isn't a pronoun, it's an honorific. Pronouns are used in place of a person's name to avoid repetition, honorifics are added to a name to add additional meaning 2) Just to point out, almost all European languages are gendered in some way, including the pronouns. English is actually LESS gendered than a lot of other euro-langs. So if you're translating into any romance/germanic language be prepared to have to deal with this issue. 3) the They/Them suggestion is a good one, but some words of warning: this is a politicized topic in English speaking countries at the moment. I think it's your best blanket option, but be aware it isn't 100% 'safe' Issues boil down to 2 points: a) singular they/them (1 person, as opposed to multiple persons) is not formal English. It arguably SHOULD be, since English speakers have used it forever, & it is highly useful... but it isn't. So 'language nazis' will likely comment on it from that angle b) it's being pushed by left-wing political elements as part of their attack on traditional gender roles/values. So using it could be misconstrued as being in that political bloc, even if that is not at all your intention. Of course, using the correct gendered pronouns could also be considered a political statement... yadda yadda we live in interesting times :/ Again, they/them is your best bet if you don't want to have to learn & correct each translated pronoun... it just isn't the easy non-controversial answer you want.

I also tend to question if when people use it like that if it’s a political push or a genuine usage. Not particularly because I take a side on modern western “issues” because frankly I think both sides are being childish, but because the climate is at a point where everything is polarized and being made political. It’s so annoying that because everything in the west is being divided in Left and Right that things as simple as this can be legitimately questioned. Whatever happened to “live and let live”?
