@@DigitalxGamer All but Cheren are a breeze honestly, Hell the triplets gym gived you an elemental monkey to help.

@@joeshroom8482 I mean, these are all first gyms that commonly give people problems. Especially younger or newer players. Falkner's Pidgeotto has higher stats than you'd expect and Mud-Slap can very easily wreck an entire team this early in the game, even if you bring a Geodude. Roark is another known challenge. The only starter that can even reliably counter his Cranidos is Turtwig. Cranidos hits both hard and fast and can easily sweep through an unprepared team. Especially if he gets you in a Flinch chain. The Triplets are probably the easiest of the ones I've listed I'll admit, but that's not to say it's a cakewalk. If he's able to set up a couple Work Ups, he'll be hitting you shockingly hard. This goes for both the monkey and the Lillipup. Hell, in Gen I, even Brock can be a legitimate wall if you don't start with Squirtle. Because even Bulbasaur doesn't learn a Grass-type attack until Level 13, and you have to do some decent grinding in order to get to that point, so a strategy is not immediately obvious. Especially if you're also raising other Pokemon. And no, there's no Mankey to use and Nidoran doesn't learn Double Kick until Level 43 back then, unless you're playing Yellow. See, it's hard to judge them from an objective standpoint because you've been doing these gyms for years now. I do concede that modern Pokemon games can be a bit on the easy side, perhaps too much so. But first gyms are designed a certain way to teach beginners about strategy. If you don't have the right strategy, quite a few of them can wall a player without being SO hard that it turns the younger audience away.

@@DigitalxGamer My issue with all of that is, most kids don't think about strategy on their first playthrough, Most if not all of that can be negated by overlevelling your starter, which most kids will do, likewise even with a type disadvantage, just spamming tackle or having a full team of anything that won't get oneshot will do it. First gyms aren't really that good in teaching typing or general gameplay except for Brock & The Chefs.

I'd say Brock is only good at teaching typing in _Yellow_ , @@joeshroom8482, since you can kinda just ignore him if you have Bulbasaur or Squirtle in the other gen I games. IMO, _BW_ are the only games that did their first gym right, by guaranteeing that the gym always has a type advantage over your starter, while providing an option with an advantage against _that_ . Makes players realise that their starter isn't always the best, and that there's generally a good choice for each situation if you look around enough. (Similarly, making the Jeigan monkeys only really useful for the super-early game encourages players to change their team up as they go, and at least put a token effort into figuring out everything's strengths.)

Joey Bear the main reason temtem is “harder” than Pokémon is because it is new Go back and play the first game you played all over again, it will be no where near as difficult as it was in the past. That is because you now understand the mechanics of Pokémon after playing so the game becomes easier. If temtem becomes a franchise (which it likely won’t) the same thing will happen every game will seem easier because you will know how the mechanics work.

Plus, even if they are comparable, that doesn't look good for Pokemon. If a small team can make comparable animations to a multibillion dollar company that owns the biggest multimedia franchise of all time, then something's wrong.

@@samuelgarza2466 As far as I know, those cool animations in Temtem were just for slightly more powerful attacks. So they're less like max moves in Pokemon and more like moves such as Stone Edge, Surf, Psychic, and Thunder in terms of strength. If the only thing that can rival the basic battle animations in the fan-funded indie title are the overpowered moves of massive Dynamaxed Pokemon, then Game Freak has a problem.

It’s definitely got inspiration from all kinds of sources. Pokémon is clearly the main one, but it’s just as much its own thing like Digimon is. I hate how people call it “Pokemon but good” because this is not inherently true. Pokémon has all kinds of appeals that this game does not, just as Temtem has many that Pokémon does not. It’s all about personal preference.
