See, I always knew Atraxa was just too weak to be playable. Good on the Magic team for finally correcting that mistake and giving us something that actually might be worth reanimating. XD

I agree with what you said about how WOTC keeps printing OP cards like Atraxa and Valgavoth. It makes for a lot of non-games. It also makes playing aggro decks like RDW more necessary because you have to beat your opponent before they can get down Atraxa, Valgavoth, etc. Mid-range will really struggle against cards like Atraxa and Valgavoth. It also makes it more necessary to have to have removal, board wipes, etc. to answer it and even then that's not usually enough since Atraxa can just replace itself and Valgavoth is difficult to kill because of it's ward cost. The power creep is definitely out of control. I'm not looking forward to opponents reanimating Valgavoth turn one with a dark ritual + reanimate in Timeless.

We have a 4 mana reanimation spell since Dominaria United, Sheoldred restoration is 3B for a reanimation but you lose life equal to it's mana value, with Valgavoth that was almost half your life and with Atraxa/Etali is a third so that's why people don't use it, even tho with so many lifelinkers it could be tried again.

Definitely vibe with your take on Atraxa/Terror eater. The life link was really a design mistake. Heck you could put atraxa in play, MISCLICK and take 0 cards off the top 10, and still win like half the time because they can't kill it immediately.
@txflood25192 сағат бұрын
I mean, they can tho? Heaps of black and white removal in the format and blue can bounce or counter it. The biggest problem I have with Atraxa is that it keeps drawing into itself.

@@txflood2519 so you just cant play gruul anymore?
@jamespainter45652 сағат бұрын
@@txflood2519 missed the point made by a mile. Even if you drew 0 cards off of atraxa, you still have to kill it, or you cannot reasonably win the game at all. You cannot race it unless you were so unbelievably far ahead when Atraxa got into play. I even said "If they can't kill it immediately" In my comment lol. Talking as if they killed it literally misses the entire point of my comment and Jim's original statement.
@txflood25192 сағат бұрын
@@cooljoe500 You're letting someone go over the top of your aggro at that point. Tbh if its a domain deck you were probably dead to sunfall + herd migration if it wasnt Atraxa. If its reanimate they have other targets like Etali.
@txflood2519Сағат бұрын
@@jamespainter4565 Killing creatures is not a problem and the decks playing Atraxa arent going to drain your removal by getting a lot of early board. Your bitching about not being able to race a 7 power lifelinker, just evaluate that. Atraxa is an old card at this point so people should be able to see her coming from a mile away and have the presence of mind to save an answer for it.

I thought that was a pretty wild take. Obviously it's easy to hate out reanimator, but this one is more compact than the previous condition

I love the idea of big things to work towards in Magic. It's lame when the best creatures are 1,2, and 3 drops.

I agree about the lifelink thing, and I also just don't find "cheat giant win-the-game card into play" strategies to ever lead into fun games for my taste. Really dislike Kona too, even if it's not that strong it's gonna be so unfun. Kinda hyped for WB reanimate in limited though, I think over there it's a cool occasional archetype!

I think it's nice to have something like reanimator in standard, puts some kind of check on aggro, especially since BLB.
@ryanryan884958 минут бұрын
Aggro is usually favored against reanimator, not the other way around.
@BosSoxFan1536 минут бұрын
I'm not saying you are favored to win the last game or anything, but if your concern was getting combo killed by the creature couldn't you have beseeched (not bargained) for bitter triumph or go for the throat and then next turn killed the creature. I'm not saying it would have worked out but that was an option to try and interact with the combo. The 4 mana reanimate cards seem pretty powerful for standard.
@HTXVintageVibes2 сағат бұрын
Yea I see best of 1 decks either going all in or having ALOT of real estate dedicated to stopping these enchantments and reanimating and combo decks. Best of three meta is gonna be flipped on its head as well. Too many turn 2 turn 3 turn 4 combos in standard. While it’s fun, I think changes are a coming!
@HTXVintageVibes2 сағат бұрын
Ps I think limited is going to be my main focus for this set. Dabble in constructed with a pet deck or two and then just really focus on grinding out limited. Complete this set 100% and maybe play more constructed pioneer or brawl. I don’t even have a deck in either format that’s competitive at the moment. Lots of half completed ideas lol.

Valgavoth feels less like an Atraxa and more like an Etali. Sure, has a big effect on the game if it survives but it's not going to survive for long that often. Black decks have Liliana's edict ability plus all the cutdowns to keep you from having shitters to sac. That said, if it's good enough to be a top-end playable it's definitely going to have nothing but polarized matchups and possibly turn Leyline of the Void into an auto-include even in decks that can never cast it. Rite of the Moth is, IMO, the bigger issue. Pay a ton for Valgavoth on turn 6-7 after ramping is kind of fine. Turn 4, even with a Finality counter, not so much.

I don't mind the giant reanimation targets
@thane240Сағат бұрын
Valgavoth is so dumb. Honestly miles and leagues above atraxa. The ward sacc 3 is INSANE, it's hard enough overcoming 9 lifelink flying. Most decks sacrificing 3 permanents makes it feel invincible. Especially trun 3/4. At least with atraxa you can still kill spel target it and maybe snatch the game from under it. Essentially rendering 3-4 turns inert for one creature and spell. Makes the match unplayable the moment it hits the board. Control and graveyard hate is going is going to be a huge element in standard moving forward.
@PhatMacPilla44 минут бұрын
The big dummies are fine especially if it's 9 mana, they're supposed to damn near end the game. Just stop making these turn 3-4 reanimators/cast for free cards with "downsides" that can just put 9+ mana demons, eldrazi, wurms etc. on the field.
