I would say Christianity is a religion of people that have a relationship with God. Thanks for pointing out these Cliche (pronounced Kleeshays). I think another one to point out is the bad teaching that says if you commit suicide you automatically go to Hell. I think that one has bruised a lot of people. There is no Bible verse that says that.

I'd recommend massively revising Romans 1:18, for example. Or at least, show the version angels had? As it failed with... rather a lot of them... first. In heaven itself, apparently. And it may help to see how well it best gels with 1 Corinthians 2:14, too (and including what 'natural' means, in context)? Also, Yeshua bar Joseph... (James Hyde)

I really think the "God told me.." and "Listen to the still small voice" cliches need to be talked about and rebuked more within the church. Both of these caused me a lot of distress for a long time because even though I knew I had repented and put my trust in Christ I doubted my salvation constantly because it seemed like everyone around me was always "hearing from God" messages that seemed to be just for them and I wasn't. I had so many doubts and it stumbled me a lot. I used to beg God to speak to me and sit in the quiet during my prayer time waiting for a still small voice, I would sob about it. Until I heard Todd talk about this on the podcast and I was amazed he was the only one I had heard talk about this and it reassured me that God's Word is sufficient and all that I need.

I had the same issue. So many people have claimed to “hear” God speaking to them. When it didn’t happen to me, no matter how badly I wanted it, I eventually began to think something was wrong with me and I was actually a false convert. It took a lot of time, prayer, and study of legitimate Bible teachers (like this man!) to help me overcome this kind of thinking.

Friend, I don’t know what church you go/went to, or what denomination you fall under, if any, but to hear Him, it helps to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I’m not sure if you believe in speaking in tongues, but that is a sure fire way to know that you have the Holy Spirit within you. The Lord certainly talks to people. However, it’s not as simple as that. He talks to me, but it’s not like an audible voice you hear. It’s like a knowing that comes from within. As an example, one time I was by myself driving on a rather windy and narrow road. Suddenly, I know within to look out for deer. As I make a turn, sure enough I see a deer on the side of the road 3 seconds after knowing to lookout for deer. It seems like a little thing, but the deer may have startled me and something could’ve happened. Don’t beat yourself up over not knowing when it’s Him talking to you. That’s the hardest part about listening to Him. Distinguishing whether it’s Him, just you, or the enemy trying to harm you. People that say He doesn’t talk to us just don’t know how to tell when it’s His voice, because He talks a lot. You’re His kid after all and a Father loves talking to their kid

@@ThatMan223 I 100% know that God talks to people because He has done so many times in the bible. But I believe it's an exception and not a rule. God can do and does whatever He wants. But I don't believe all these people are hearing from God constantly and Hes telling them they should wash their curtains today. Are we guided by the Holy Spirit? Absolutely, but like you said we can't trust all the "voices" or thoughts we get so we have to turn to God's word. That's why He gave it to us. We don't have to try to rely on our own thoughts to know Him because His truth is written down and set in stone and living.
@ThatMan223
@ThatMan223 Жыл бұрын
@@jenniberber1489 considering the conversations I’ve had with The Father, I don’t doubt that some people you know have been told that it’s time to clean the curtains. The Father loves us and wants to save us from as much neck pain as possible. Maybe if the curtains were left unclean, something gross would begin to infest the house? Merely speculation because I don’t know this person, but I’ve had quite a few times where He’s warned me about something small so it doesn’t become a hassle. Sadly, something a lot of people believe is that The Father is distant and rarely speaks. This is simply not the case. He will talk with you about pretty much everything because He is your Dad and wants to spend time with His kid. I’m not disregarding His Word, please don’t think that for a second. All I’m saying is that He loves to talk with us through His Word and outside of His Word because I have it both ways.

I hear what you are saying, but you can't forget the fact about the gifts of the Spirit. The gift of knowledge and wisdom which can be given to any follower of Christ at any time. When I was a young Christian I was walking out to my car to go to work on a cold winter morning. I would drive to work one of two ways to alternate my route. As I headed to the car there was a strong thought, like a voice in my mind. The voice told me which road to take. I didn't know what to think about that and thought, I went that way yesterday so I'll take the other road. The strong thought spoke again. This happened twice, I dismissed it the second time. The thought/voice told me a third time which way to go. This time I said, I better go that way. So I went the way I was "told". Found at that at the bottom of a steep hill on the route I was going to take, there was a water main break and the water covering the road was freezing over. I believe that God did speak to me to protect me from a dangerous hazard. I don't get that thought/voice very often, but when it happens, I've learned to listen. Jesus said, my sheep know my voice and follow me. But I do think you are right to a point. Yeah there are to many Christian's out there claiming that God is speaking to them constantly. I don't believe them. I never heard an audible voice or God call me by name. But I have heard like a strong thought/voice in my mind tell me things. And I know it's not me thinking it

Be very careful. Test those spirits. 1 John 4:1. "I know it's not me thinking it". Remember there is another mathematical possibility you may have left out. @@Gablesman888 Amazing. Instead of praising God for his providence, you doubt, question my experience. That's ok. People have treated me like that all my Christian life. I know my experiences with the Lord are real and I trust in him, not man. When I have those times when I get a thought/voice in my head I know they are from the Lord Jesus Christ. They never go outside of scripture, and I am always right when I follow what I was told. I don't know of any elephant you speak of. The real question is. Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed? I mean the biblical way of receiving the Holy Ghost, not the popular modern way the church claims today. The church today has dumbied down God's salvation plan of being born again. They made it more convenient. They made it a way that is near. They follow tradition instead of truth. They say, just repeat this prayer. Or just except Jesus. Or you only have to believe. Yet none of those ways are biblical. Search the scripture for in them you think you have eternal life, but they are they that testify of him. That is on Jesus Christ. God's one and only plan of salvation by the new birth is as Peter said in Acts 2:38, Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. No other way that man has made up is scriptural. Pray about this. Study it out completely.

@@Gablesman888 How rude. God does still speak to us today. Three women at a women's prayer meeting ( who didn't know one another) all had a message from God for me. The message was " God will restore what the locust has eaten) It did mean something to me and yes it's scriptural.Another time my dad had just died and a few weeks before he died I told him about Jesus and he said he believed what I had said was true. I asked the Lord if my dad made it to heaven and hoped that he had. On Sunday whilst I was at church a Christian man ( a farmer) came to me and said" I don't know what this means but as I was praying the Lord told me to tell you the answer to your question is Yes he is here. I cried. God has spoken to me through dreams and in my spirit. I do check that it matches up with the word of God, especially when others have a word I have been given words that I knew were wrong because they didn't line up with scripture. I know that people are often misguided because they are biblically iliterate and the most important way to hear from God is to study his word but he does still speak to us in our inner man ect. Hope this hasn't been to long for you to read.

There is a sinners prayer in the Bible. Romans 10:9-10 But yes the way false teachers like Joel Osteen do it is wrong. After someone hears the gospel and their heart is convicted and they understand that they are a sinner in need of a savior, and you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead then you will be saved.
@thundershadow
@thundershadow Жыл бұрын
@@michaelhardy2658 That's not a sinners prayer. In the entire book of acts there is no account of a sinners prayer (for conversion)... the closest the scriptures come to it in acts is chapter 22 the conversion of Paul. And that three days of prayer and fasting did NOT remit his sins. Likewise, it didn't constitute calling on the name of the lord for redemption. His belief in Jesus did not constitute his conversion in that chapter. The MIRACULOUS laying on of hands of Ananias did not remit his sins. Paul did not stop confessing Jesus as lord during this entire confrontation (and all of this he did before Ananias even showed up to lay hands on him). He still had to do something to be converted (his sins washed away). Chapter 22 is the Holy Spirits way of shooting down every obstacle a person would throw in the way of Baptism by faith. Is that a works based salvation? It is a works of the Holy Spirit based salvation. I agree if you only see yourself doing something in your baptism... Yes... Your baptism is quite ineffectual. But when I was being baptized... I didn't think I was baptizing myself. I thought of it as the Holy Spirit performing an operation on me. Am I bragging? Not on myself... I can't baptize myself.

@@thundershadow It’s a sinner praying to God on your knees that you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and that you God the Father raised Him from the dead so that my sins can be forgiven and have everlasting life. That is a prayer that happens to everyone when they become a believer because the weight of your sin should make you fall on your knees and pray and cry out to God to forgive you of your sins and that you believe!! At that very moment you are baptized with the Holy Spirit and are sealed for the day of redemption, no water needed, not saying that you shouldn’t get water baptized but that is not what saved you! So in a sense it is biblical that there be a sinners prayer just not the way that it is done today by most churches!

@@horseman4now Thank you for the advice. However I'm growing tired and frustrated with this unhealthy fixation, stemming from other people. All about what tv shows or movies I watch. I have been suffering from severe depression and anxiety because of this. Because I feel as if I'm being attacked by others, when there is no need to do so whatsoever. No person deserves to be abused over what they watch on TV or at the cinema. I have been advised by a close friend's pastor (who enjoys The Harry Potter series of films and books himself.) To give myself a long break from the bible and those who have misused it against me, and just get back to being my usual self. The person that I was before this mistreatment occurred. Reaffirm my own personal relationship with god, without any other outside input or influence. And whilst I am doing this. I will be booking much needed sessions with my Christian counsellor, Sarah. Sarah holds several degrees within both the Church and Counselling areas of expertise. She treats both spiritual issues, along with psychiatric conditions, such as PTSD -Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, General Anxiety Disorders, Specialised anxiety disorders like OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, as well as Depression, Bipolar Disorder and many other mental health conditions. Who already ( several months prior ) reaffirmed in our first few sessions together. That it is perfectly acceptable for me to watch and read the things that I enjoy, as long as it doesn't interfere with me spiritually, interfere with my relationship with god, or cause me to act in an untoward or negative manner. So, none of the 3 reasons listed above are applicable. They do not cause any unwanted or negative issues/problems. In fact many of the television series,books, movies and video games I play are utilised in a positive manner as CBT-Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to help treat my OCD and my PTSD. Focusing on a positive and enjoyable activity is extremely important in both managing and improving both conditions. It also enables the damaged part of my brain (the orbital cortex) to create new and healthy neurological pathways. Creating new pathways within the brain, can greatly ease the painful symptoms that my OCD and PTSD cause. So lastly, the things I like. Star Wars, Sci-fi, Dragons, fantasy genre, history. These are all comforting and interesting topics for me. Plus its an expression of who I am. A part of myself I need to repair now.

@@tymurphy8564 Thank you for your question. Please read Galatians Chapters 1 and 2. In chapter 2 it is settled that James, Cephas (Peter), and John would go and preach to the Jews the gospel of the kingdom and Paul would preach to the Gentiles the gospel of the grace of God. There were Jews that were trying to get Paul's Gentile believers to be circumcised and follow the Law of Moses. That was settled in Galatians Chapter 2. Paul's mission was to preach to everyone if you remember what the Lord said to Ananias said in Acts 9:15 Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel. If you remember Paul preached that Jesus Christ was the Son of God in the synagogues before he went to Arabia to receive (by divine revelation) the gospel of the grace of God. Below, I have written as to what the differences are between the gospel of the kingdom and the gospel of the grace of God. The Gospel of the Kingdom “and” The Gospel of the Grace of God The Gospel of the Kingdom In the New Testament, God tells of the two gospels. The first gospel is called the gospel of the kingdom. This gospel is written of in the books of Matthew through Mark, and Hebrews through Revelation. The second gospel is called the gospel of the grace of God. This gospel is written of in the 13 epistles of Paul. These books are Romans through Philemon. To believe the gospel of the kingdom, the Jews were to believe that Jesus was the Son of God and had come to earth to establish His earthly kingdom. In this gospel the Jews believed that Jesus Christ was their redeemer, messiah and king. The gospel of the kingdom is the gospel that Jesus Christ (while on earth) preached. This gospel of the kingdom is also the gospel that Peter and the 11 preached. The gospel of the kingdom is the “good news” that God would provide an earthly kingdom for His chosen people, the Jews. In fact, when Jesus Christ came to earth, the Jews had an opportunity to have this gospel be fulfilled. However, as the Bible tells us, the Jews rejected their king and thus rejected this gospel of the kingdom. God knew that the Jews would reject this gospel and their king. As seen in the Book of Revelation, Jesus Christ will return to earth, defeat Satan and establish His kingdom on earth. This kingdom will start with Christ's 1000 year reign on earth, which is known as the Millennial Kingdom. Below are verses in which Jesus Christ refers to His “gospel of the kingdom,” and His kingdom. Matthew 9:35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. This gospel was also known as the gospel of the kingdom of God as seen in Mark 1:14-15. Mark 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. We see in the Book of Matthew, that Matthew refers to this gospel of the kingdom as the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. We also see in Matthew 4:17 that Jesus Christ referred to His kingdom as the “kingdom of heaven,” and preached repentance for the “kingdom of heaven” is at hand. Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Below, are verses that explain how that the Jews were saved by believing in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. These verses tell us that the Jews were saved by believing in. on or through the name of Jesus. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 2:23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, in the feast day, many believed in his name, when they saw the miracles which he did. John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. The Gospel of the Grace of God The gospel of the grace of God is the gospel of the death, burial and resurrection. God tells us of this gospel in I Corinthians 15:1-4. In this gospel we see that Jesus Christ died for our sins upon the cross, was buried and was resurrected three days later. We are saved by our belief in the gospel of the grace of God. We believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins upon the cross, was buried and was resurrected three days later. God gave this “gospel of the grace of God” to the entire world when the Jews rejected the gospel of the kingdom when they stoned Stephen to death and thus rejected the gift of the Holy Spirit which was given to those who believed the gospel of the kingdom, as seen in Acts Chapter 7. The word grace used as a doctrinal term is defined as “unmerited favor.” This means that we have done nothing to deserve God's mercy. It is only through our belief in what Jesus Christ has done on our behalf that God promises us hope of salvation. This hope of salvation becomes “salvation realized” when we believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, was buried and was resurrected - it is just that simple. Jesus Christ only entrusted Paul to preach this gospel to us. Paul was given this gospel by divine revelation from Jesus Christ as seen in Galatians 1:12. Galatians 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. Peter and the 11 were entrusted with the gospel of the kingdom, but only Paul was entrusted to preach the gospel of the grace of God. Below, we see where God tells us in I Corinthians 15:1-4 what is the “gospel of the grace of God.” I Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. Paul tells us in Acts 20:24 that he received his ministry to testify of the gospel of the grace of God, which he received from Jesus Christ. Acts 20:24 But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. Please tell others how easy and simple that it is to be saved under the gospel of the grace of God. Please tell them that once they believe this gospel they are then sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise until Christ redeems us.

I did the sinner's prayer a few months after discovering Jesus was the way more than 2 years ago and I'm following Christ more than ever now. And as for "God told me...", I understand the reasoning, but God does tell people things, especially in dreams. It's just a matter of discernment of whether it's actually from God. God doesn't want to lead His people astray after all.

All of these are good, but, "God told me," is the saying that irritates me the most. My church had a three-piece band which included me playing guitar and doing the lead singing, our pastor's wife singing, and a drummer. I had a stroke in April 2020 which took away my ability to sing, so the band was on hiatus. Roughly a month after my stroke, the pastor's wife said to me, "God told me that you should keep singing." I literally could not sing at the time. I wondered to myself, "Why is God telling her I should keep singing and not me?" With the help of a speech therapist, over the course of about a year, I eventually recovered about 85% to 90% of my ability to sing. There is no more band. I just lead the singing of traditional hymns on Sundays with my guitar. I didn't care for some of the pop, pseudo-worship songs we were performing anyway. Keep up the great work, everyone. I enjoy the knowledge I gain and the humor.

Sounds like you are more in tune with God's Holy Spirit than your Pastor's wife. It may be time to find a new church if they are hearing God speak to them, specifically. I have been saved and serving Christ by the Grace of God's Loving Son Jesus's Holiness for 62 years, and I have yet to hear the voice of God directly communicate with me. The King James Bible is my source of God, Jesus and the holy spirit informing, instilling and guiding me in my life's choices. What I will say is there are many people who profess Christianity who have very little biblical knowledge, and if they possess some biblical knowledge it can be misinterpreted and distorted. There is too much supplementation of personal ideologies by men and women that influence church doctrine, rather than God's Holy Word, floating around in many denominations. It is as if they wrote a ryder on scripture, like you would find on an insurance policy. We can not alter scripture to suit our own human existence. Be well.

Sadly, I am joining the conversation a little bit late. If there was a previous Wretched KZbin video regarding silly slogans, I think I missed it. At any rate, here is one we need to can: "God is good, all the time; all the time, God is good." It annoys me because it's not in the Bible. Also, those who say it seem to have, IMHO, a sanctimonious chip on their shoulder. One might wonder: how many Christians have memorized this slogan, but have memorized few--if any--Bible verses? OK, let's concede that this slogan is in harmony with Scripture. But I say, let's be Biblical--specifically more Psalm-like--and say something like, "The LORD is good; His mercy endures forever."

Fellow Christians are often the most frustrating and confused people I encounter. I used to go up to people I saw on the street giving out tracks or whatnot, thinking we had something in common and they'd be happy to see another Christian But most of these encounters didn't go very well because often other Christians believe weird things or were just hostile, argumentative, and / or not very mentally stable. And so I stopped and now I don't bother. Some here will understand. Others have never experienced this and won't understand. And still others will be uncomfortable admitting that this is a thing, and so it will be easier for them to just pretend the problem is all me. And so they'll launch into sanctimonious sermons about my mistakes or shortcomings, blah blah. Sorry, It's not me. I stand by everything I just said and God is my witness. Decades of experience have proven over and over that this is an issue worth talking about honestly and not hiding under the rug.

Let's think here, in the New Testament the Spirit of God spoke to Paul for direction in ministry ,I can think of others. I have had instances as to where the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart about carrying out many tasks . I am studying the book of Romans and by the way I am using John MacArthur's commentary on Romans as a help, any way I keep on getting a prompting as to wanting study Romans with a Muslim. Has God given me a vision or am I just being deceived by my own desires, you be my judge?

You shouldn't seriously study the Bible with a satan worshipper/Muslim. You can share scriptures with them, tell them The Gospel and your testimony, but shouldn't do a Bible study in the sense where you are open to learn anything from them because the Bible says to turn away from people like that.

If they are open to a genuine study, why not? If they think to disprove it, I would say it depends on how well you know your scripture.

🤢 this reminds me of when I was visiting a new-age, progressive church. They quoted the “love your neighbor as yourself” verse and said Jesus really meant for us to give ourselves the same love we give others all the time.🤮

I do understand that Christianity is a religion. That being said, today Christian means "followers of Christ". How close? Everybody is a Christian, right? It was originally a mocking term that meant "little Christs" and then "Christ Martyrs". It later became a title of honor meaning "Christ Warriors". Greater theologians taught me this. How many people today will give up their lives for Jesus, in America? Yeah, not many. They say they are "Christians" but will give up Christ for political causes. Hijacked! Religion.....another hijacked word. Western culture lumps together Christ Martyrs, Islamic terrorists, Mormons, Catholics, Buddhists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Christian Scientists, and those religious wiccans. Hijacked, again. Just call me by my Native American name.................Dead Man Walking.

I do believe God still speaks to people. He is not a dead god. BUT... He does not tell us anything that contradicts scripture. Why do I need words from God? Because I believe God speaks in a way that calls my mind to a scripture. For example, a few years ago, I was going through the worst pain of my life. I was praying for God to heal me. I prayed for God to calm my storm. This is when I felt the spirit of God speaking to me. He said "I'm resting in your boat." This prompting of the spirit led me back to scripture where I read that the disciples cried out to Jesus during the storm. Jesus was resting on a cushion, asleep. When they woke him, he calmed the storm and questioned their faith. Even the disciples didn't see that God was resting in their boat. He was in control even when they didn't see it. Now I know that if God is resting in the boat, then I can trust Him in all of life's challenges. Was this a new revelation to me? Yes. Did God use his word to reveal it? Yes, do I also believe he spoke directly to my soul? Absolutely. How do I know I can trust it? BECAUSE IT WAS CONFIRMED AND IN ALIGN WITH SCRIPTURE.
