@@kevinkelly2162 Ah... you're one of those who doubt the authorship of the Gospels. There are quite a few historical problems with this, mainly that we have writings from people like Polycarp and Papias, who were the original disciples of the Apostles themselves, that confirm that the Gospels were written by those that they are traditionally attributed to. Secondly, as I alluded to, the reasoning that listening to teachers providing solid understandings of the Scriptures minimizes the power of God and the Gospel is a fallacy known as a non sequitur.

Did I hear "Red Letter Christian?" I remember the church I went to invited Shane Claiborne once. He preached on the parable of Lazarus and the rich(Lk 16:19-31). He was talking about how poor Lazarus was and not about how to get to heaven. 5min or so into the preaching, I walked out of the church.
@MarkTAllenby2 жыл бұрын
Would you have walked out when Jesus told the parable? I mean read it. Jesus starts by stressing how rich Dives was and how poor Lazarus was. In no point in the parable does Jesus explain how Lazarus got into heaven, only how he lack compassion for the poor. What do you make of that?
@JesseMgala2 жыл бұрын
@@MarkTAllenby Is the lack of compassion on the poor on the part of the rich is the only lesson of the parable? Is it not also how dreadful the place of torment in Hades is? Many Bible teachers say, Jesus spoke about hell/Hades more than anybody else. This parable must be one of the accounts where he spoke about hell/Hades. The parable has 13 verses. The first 3 verses were on earth. The scene of the remaining 9 verse is in Hades. 8 verses is conversation between Abraham and the rich with the latter begging the former to send Lazarus to warn his brothers so they wouldn't go to the place of torment also. To me, that's the main lesson of the parable. If a person preach on this parable without mentioning the main lesson, then that person miss the point. Don't get me wrong. When I was in elementary in the 70s, from time to time I go to school with empty stomach, barefoot, ripped shorts and getting laughed at when my classmate see my behind. Whether I'd walk away if I'd hear Jesus telling the parable? I don't know. I'm thankful to be born in this generation. Or by that question aren't you equating Shane's way of preaching to Jesus'? All I can say is, I've read the whole Bible multiple times. It's not hard to tell whether or not a preacher is scriptural, woke, liberal or progressive.

6:12 Yes, you are right about "all." HOWEVER, The word "Scripture" in this verse referred exclusively to the Old Testament. Much of the New Testament did not even exist when Paul was writing to Timothy. Not that the epistles aren't Scripture now, but 2 Timothy 3:16 was not self-referential at the time.
@rlhicks12 жыл бұрын
Not only did Paul call Luke’s writing Scripture, Peter said that Paul’s writings were Scripture (2 Peter 3:15-16). Peter compares the writings of Paul to the “rest of the Scriptures.” To him, they carried God’s divine authority. Thus, these two passages called certain writings Scripture which were not part of the Old Testament. Consequently, it would be fair to assume that 2 Timothy 3:16 also refers to the New Testament writings, as well as the Old Testament.

@Minotaur1776 I guess you prefer the theft perpetrated on the world by corporate globalism - where powerful, greedy individuals engage in theft of earth’s resources for their own enrichment. Earth’s resources belong to all. Those who invest their money in mining/developing are entitled to reward for their labour, but they are not entitled to act as if they own them - thus they are not entitled to exploit and rob everyone else - which is what they do and is why 99% of the people in the world live in relative poverty while 1% hog most of the wealth.
The problem is that someone refuting Paul and\or the Gospel of John will not accept scripture from the same sources they refute. They are wrong, of course, but since scripture is spiritually discerned, then they need to be saved before they will believe the whole of scripture. Until then, they are blinded by the prince of this world.
