When I gave my son the same rant on hanging out with smarter, faster, stronger kids here is what he came back with. He said, “If I do that their dad will give them the same speech, and I’m back to where I started”. Smart kid😊

We’re not a capitalist society but a mixed society, with a lot of regulations, controls, cronyism and redistribution which are all features of statism. Central planning by the Fed is statist. Bailouts are statist. Capitalism is freedom that always leads to prosperity everywhere and to the extent it is tried. Socialism is statism that always leads to death and destruction everywhere and to the extent it is tried. Capitalism is an unknown ideal whixh we never fully had and are now losing. We need to rediscover Enlightenment values of Reason and Individualism if we want it back.

totally agree. the softening of our culture leads us directly into the arms of the tyrants.

Thanks for explaining that it's corporatism not capitalism. So how do we improve it? Is it all about corporations lobbying, donating to politicians, politicians becoming lobbyists and all that? And your example of home ownership as an outcome of hard work to be able to afford the house. But if corporations have gotten lower cost loans than the regular citizen, and those corporations buy up all the houses and drive prices higher, that's a problem that the regular citizen may not realize is out of their control.

Adam, you mentioned that the US is the only country in the world where you can set up a business from nothing, and make it big. This is delusional and myopic and something I often hear Americans state. There are many countries in the world where you can achieve this and America would be lucky to be in the top 20 with regard to the complexity of achieving this. America is overrun with bureaucracy, red tape and your tax system is overly complicated. Compare that to NewZealand or Australia or a number of other countries where you can go online and open a business within 15 minutes. It’s a bit how you call your baseball competition the World Series but you’re the only country competing. Sure American has achieved amazing things, but I think uall might get a better perspective on the world if you got out a bit more.

The deepest capital markets in the world exist only in America. Innovation is deeply embedded into the culture. Also the results just speak for themselves; most unicorns, most hnwis, worlds largest most influential companies are based out of the states.

I would say the states carried the culture of the east India company into the modern day.
