When a composer is not afraid to mix his own culture's music with jazz and other sounds and tones that are straight out of a fever dream, we get this masterpiece. Noriyuki Asakura is the G.O.A.T. and no one and nothing else will ever change my mind. Not ever.

Asakura put his all into this soundtrack and he barely gets any credit.
@doscuramenos5 жыл бұрын
Also considering he also put his 'more than all' in RK's OST! 'Cause in that one (RK) he did not need to hold himself up, on the other hand, in these Tenchu songs he cannot make songs which could disturb the player - they have to be reflexive most of the time.
@oXyacePtylene4 жыл бұрын
@@doscuramenos Let's just agree that Asakura did a wonderful job on both Rurouni Kenshin and the Tenchu games. Although his songs in RK are somewhat more "intense" - since they derive and help create the tone and mood of the scenes, his work in the Tenchu games is much more "ambient". It's not as catchy as it sets the mood for the entire level. You get pumped up with that bassline on the first mission you play, you get relaxed on the Checkpoint and Mountain levels, you get intrigued by the strangeness of the temple...but, above all, the only thing that gets the sense of the size of the castle is "Oni no Shiro". It's just perfect.
@doscuramenos4 жыл бұрын
@@oXyacePtylene i agree, but with complements (or caveats), if i may... Let's just say Tenchu couldn't have had a better OST because it could disturb the player and make him/her not focus on the game, so Tenchu songs - OST, as you stated, could not help, all the times, to build or make derive mood and tone for the scenes, because that's not usually the way a videogame is done (or at least not by the time period, and specially for a game like Tenchu, or even a horror game for instance)...
@oXyacePtylene4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think I agree with what you mean. I think it derives from the way the games are made. For instance, both Tenchu 1 and 2 have these big, open levels where you roam wherever you want and you need only one song to set the mood. On the other hand, Tenchu 3 has this linearity (you get from one area of the level to another), which could favor a much richer soundtrack, with diverse songs for suspense parts, more relaxing ones for open areas, these string arrangements for nature scenarios, guitar and traditional instrument parts for villages... something like that.
@doscuramenos4 жыл бұрын
@@oXyacePtylene - but even Tenchu 3 then, by what you stated, would only base its OST on more suspense and relaxing tones as well, be it with string arrangements or even more traditional guitar adjustments and others... RK on the other hand needed songs to build mood for some different kinds of situations (between themselves), beyond the ones portrayed in Tenchu for instance, not only relaxing or suspense, like most of'em... In RK there were tense/urgency moments that required tense songs, songs for melancholic ones, or songs for merciful moments, speedy beats for fights, tranquil songs for storytelling portions (in which parts of Japan's history would be explained for example), other more animated beats for less serious episodes, musics for specific characters among others kinds of situations that i may forget... I am not stating Tenchu does not have its moments of melancholy or sadness or even upbeat, but they are kinda rarer in comparison to RK, so on Tenchu most of the OST has to be gamewise, and so being not as diversed, what is very comprehensible... I would even go as far as to say RK has some songs that don't even fit much stuff from its own content, what may happen even more rarely on Tenchu, what shows in this case its forced limitations soundwise... But still Tenchu has not a bad OST though...

The variance between good and bad music in this game is astounding. I mean, some of it isn't bad so much as just unfitting for the game. This track is amazing though. I'm torn between this and a few others like Execute the Corrupt Minister. I would have also liked to have a little more traditional Koto music in there too, but I guess I could turn the music volume all the way down and listen to traditional Japanese music whilst I play. I love the game though. Got a Grandmaster rank on everything except for the last level. Nothing really beat flawlessly going through a mission without being seen or having bodies discovered. I wish a game as good as this one with similar mechanics would be developed, or an HD remake of the game would suffice.
