I've been looking for the a better backpacking fishing setup for some time. I love the idea of a reel-less rod, one of these in a nine foot length (easier to cast in dense brush) sounds absolutely perfect. 3 ounces for a fishing rod is a dream come true. time to brush up on my fly fishing technique.

Love Tenkara fishing. Just finished an ice version. But, the most useful back pack/ hiking outfit I ever had was a 4/5 weight, 9.5' four piece St.Croix. Had a custom tip section made that made it a two piece 7' light action spinning rod fitted with a Pflueger ultralight reel commonly used on ice rods (small, incredibly durable, near perfect drag) spooled with 2lb dia./10lb test power pro. I literally caught everything from bluegill to strelhead, comfortably and confidentiality, with that rig.

I just bought a bear tooth tenkara rod. After watching this video, I understand how to attach my fly line. However, I don't see the lead tip attached to the end of my rod. How can I attach my fly line to the rod tip? Or is there a way to extract the lead line from the tip of the rod without damaging it, providing there is a tippet lead line in my new tenkara rod.
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco Жыл бұрын
Start by removing the bottom cap on your rod and pulling out the sections. You should have that lillian attached to your tip section so by pulling out the sections you should see it there. If for some reason there isn't one please send us an email at hello@tenkararodco.com and we can get that fixed for you!

Looked on your website linked in the description. This is something I want to get in to and I'm willing to support your company. Reading through the comments I saw a lot of 5 star reviews that said they had not received their packages yet, and much of the information about the different rods was very limited while sharing the same specifications with different price point. How am I to know that a rod that is priced at 185 is different than a rod with the same specs is different than a rod priced at 225? Would love to see more in depth specifications. Still willing to support your company, but was confused by your website and what to get.
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions Ryan! So basically the rods that are $225 are adjustable length rods. Meaning that they can be fished at two separate lengths. This requires a little more cost to build and that is why those rods are more expensive. We have a more in depth video about the rods on our rods page on the website. It explains the differences between each rod so that will help you decide. Let me know if this helps or if you need any other information. Thanks for watching the videos and supporting the brand!

You need to "improve" your clinch knots because they will pull out if not "improved". Go thru the top loop after going thru the bottom one. The bottom loop alone gives you the standard un-improved clinch knot and it will pull out!

@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 2 жыл бұрын
On our furled and level lines it is all the same diameter. On the crossbreed line we use the pvc line and furled lines which are two different diameters. Since you aren't casting far the lines don't need to be tapered or weight forward.

Can a rig a regular fishing rod to accept the Tenkara line? Take the reel off?
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 6 ай бұрын
You could technically tie a line to the end of a traditional fly rod but you wouldn't get the same action. The main difference would be that traditional rods are built to load heavier line and cast for distance. Tenkara rods are made to handle a fixed length of very light line and give you a delicate presentation, which is what helps to make them so effective. But we aren't here to tell you what you can and can't do as long as you are having fun!

Is there a reason for preference on sinking line vs floating line or is it just a choice?
@tenkararodco
@tenkararodco 4 жыл бұрын
Its mainly just preference. If you are fishing dry flies then the crossbreed (floating) line would be the best option. But if you are fishing mainly under the surface the level line is a good choice. The furled line we make can do both pretty well.

Depends on water. I keep a rod length of level line and I add pieces as I need longer reach. Keep the level line out of the water when doing dry fly work. Done. For level line to tippet I create a loose figure 8 and tie a fisherman's to the loop on the fig 8 with the tippet just like you do to the fly end. Then tighten the 8. Holds great.. I use two knots ever.
