Some police officers in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee officers testified that they feared for their jobs after they tried to share information about an internal investigation in their department that could affect a vehicular homicide trial.
We learned this at a hearing in the Justin Whaley case. Whaley is the former Hamilton County EMT convicted of vehicular homicide.
Now, his attorneys are arguing for a new trial.
In Hamilton County Criminal Court, Whaley's attorneys said a police officer and key witness, Officer Jeremy Wright, was part of an internal affairs investigation during Whaley's original trial.

The only reason they are telling the truth is because they are pissed off at him, unrelated to this issue, and they are retaliating. If they had no other issues with him they would not be saying any of this. This is more common than you think. Blackmail is very much commonplace in law enforcement.

No surprises here. Corruption within police departments nationwide, is so prevalent. These people within the justice system are given preferential treatment with qualified, and judicial immunity, it's no wonder that corruption is so rampant. And, the public blindly goes along with the belief that LE and the justice system is filled with benevolent honest people. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Because the lying officer failed to take any kind of definitive, objective tests to prove the guy was drunk, and all we have is a proven liars word that he was drunk. The chief needs to be on the brady list. His testimony is worthless. In fact, if he did the deeds he is accused of he needs to be fired as he has no integrity, ethics, responsibility or honor. If we are to take solely your word for putting people in jail, then your word needs to be above reproach, even then, I wouldn't talk an officers word for it.

Everybody who's ever tried to file a complaint on an officer knows exactly how the police act. Be it Soddy-Daisy or Collegedale or East ridge or Chattanooga or Red Bank. The first thing they'll do is threaten you and try to dissuade you from filing the report. The second thing they'll do after saying all that is tell you if you can't prove it they can charge you. Strictly speaking I don't think that's entirely true but it doesn't stop them from saying it. Eastridge in particular is pretty bad about this.

Well done WTVC. When an officer is placed on paid or unpaid leave regardless of the reason - they have their agency issued badge and weapon surrendered and a no-contact order is issued for the duration of the leave. This is standard protocol. Second, my retirement group could give this attorney a good 1,000 documented cases where law enforcement lied on official reports and under oath. This is discounting KZbinr created content but news agencies taking time to compare body worn cameras against official reports, courtroom video, and even appeal hearing video. The likelihood an officer will ever face consequences for perjury of charges for submitting false reports is almost zero (0). Third, take a look at any Brady List to review the thousands upon thousands of officers proven to be untruthful or unreliable who are still working in law enforcement. (We can even show you where judges issued a not guilty for a defendant unless the DA pressed perjury charges against an officer found lying under oath during the trial - and the DA refused.)

If you think that your police department where you live is honest, I have some news for you. The thing that has exposed a lot of them and more exposed in the future is the advent of the iPhone, doorbell cameras and business surveillance video as well as home surveillance video. They use to be able to bury anything that they wanted as long as others would go along with it meaning other cops. People were beaten, bogus charges were lodged against people. People were kept in jail that shouldn't have been there. It's coming to your area soon if you think that your police department is honest. There may be some cops but you should ask one of them: have you ever arrested a bad cop for adding charges onto someone because he/she was mad at them. Have you ever testified or turned in a cop who beat someone because they were mad at what they said? Every cop has seen a dirty cop and they never turned them in. You would be surprised at some of the things the cops say to women when they pull them over at night and there's no other witnesses. Body cameras have been the undoing of these cops.
