Nice job!! Gives me what I was missing. Really enjoyed the way you present the fret board. Will be performing this song tomorrow night. Looking for the lead up around the 12-16 fret. Been putting my own lead into this. The chords progression allows a lot of cool riffs up beyond 16 fret. Take care keep up the great work. Wish utube was around when I was younger. I would instead wear out my album and diamond needle out from replaying over and over to get the rhythm and lead parts, lol! Cheers,

F# aeolian "pentatonic" is the 100% exact same thing as A Ionian "pentatonic." You're not "also" using F# "minor" (dumb name) pentatonic ("dumber" name) because A Major (extremely dumb name) pentatonic is the same exact thing.

@LeeVerner
@LeeVerner 4 жыл бұрын
Just 3 strings. D, G, and B. Those are the only ones you have to press down hard enough to get a clean note from. It's OK if the high E string doesn't make any noise, in fact that's what you want. But that will happen without you having to worry about it.
@earlprinsloo2605

John Sawyer it’s a barre A. You’re still playing the normal A major but using only your index finger to press down the second fret B G and D strings. It’s a useful shape for songs like this
@MrJohnnyJean
@MrJohnnyJean 4 жыл бұрын
UnbeatenPath1 thank you. Am I strumming just the A while doing this or B,G, and D?
@UnbeatenPath1
@UnbeatenPath1 4 жыл бұрын
@@MrJohnnyJean it's a normal A chord. You're playing the same notes in the same way just with a different fingering to make it easier in this case. So it'll be everything but the low E string. Not to get too deep down the rabbit hole but there are different ways to play other chords too and I basically pick what fits the song and is easier. For example everyone knows Sweet Home Alabama. In the third verse after the "in Birmingham they loved the governor" the hoo hoo hoo is F C and D. They also use that to lead into the solo. Since the higher notes are accentuated I usually play the F without the 2 lowest strings as a "C shape" with my index finger barring the high E. That makes it easier to switch between the F and C since you're just moving the shape 1 string over. Lynyrd Skynyrd actually plays the main progression as D Cadd9 G which is easier movements than D C G since you're really only moving 2 fingers the whole song.

If I look up an A chord, it shows that the high E string should be played open whereas you seem to be fretting or muting it, i can’t really tell. Could you or someone explain this?
@CenterStageGuitar
@CenterStageGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
You can play an A chord with 3 fingers and get the open E string or you can barre it with one finger. When you barre with 1 finger you cannot play the high E string because you would be playing the 2nd fret making the A an A6. The open E string is just a duplication of the 5th interval that we already have on the 2nd fret of the D string. Both versions are totally acceptable

Matthew, you can barre an A and still get all the essential notes A, E, and C#. You just can't play the high E string when you do the barre. Otherwise you get a 6 chord and that sounds a lot different than an A major.
